I've spent WAY too long trying to find a suitable bookcase. I'm looking for something for my kitchen / dining room area, mostly to store my cook book collection. Can be something a tad more fancy than IKEA, as they seem to bend and I need something heavy duty.
I've searched previous threads and almost bought one from Cotswolds, only to notice it suddenly got a 1* rating!! Apparently it bends under the weight of books...
I like the idea of solid wood, would go for Oak Furniture Land, but I am not in love with any of their ranges. I like something classic / modern classic, DH likes fancy modern or mid century stuff. I don't really mind as long as it's sturdy.
Even some of the OFL seem to have thin shelves though...

You could try and pick up something vintage on eBay. It's likely to be well made. Lots of mid century modern and other bits. Plus it probably won't lose much value. So if you get bored you can sell it on and buy something else.

Look on Freecycle or Freegle. They're listed regularly.
My Ikea Billy Bookcases sagged.

What about some vintage shelves, would they be strong enough for your books?? I brought some extra strong bookcase from Amazon a couple of years agoe, they are still going strong

Facebook marketplace is great for this. You can get lovely furniture in solid wood that will last forever. Generally prices are low, I've even acquired stuff for free.

I bought a solid wood dresser secondhand and painted it. It's been great for books and with the added benefit of two decent sized cupboards underneath.

I bought this as I have lots of very heavy art books and it’s really sturdy:

Check out your local auction rooms - more unusual, probably more robust and definitely more economical and sustainable
