They just seem a bit tacky( unless I have t discovered a descent brand.

Don’t want tiles, haven’t got floorboards so guessing lino is it?

I second the suggestion of Karndean. It's warmer and thicker than Lino, looks similar to LVT and has lots of designs. We have a grey-ish wood laminate effect and it's been down for 15 years and is hard wearing, easy to clean and still looking great. Not cheap but the durability speaks for itself. We have a v old house so they said this is more forgiving in terms of laying over slightly warped floorboards. Love it.

We have wood effect lino and it looks great. You can buy different thicknesses so get the thickest you can. It's a matt effect so not shiny at all. I'd stayed in an upmarket holiday home and they had it. Will find a link.

Have a look at Harvey Maria vinyl tiles, I have in my kitchen and then bathroom as they are so good.
warm underfoot, very hard wearing, lots of designs.

Harvey Maria LVT-good patterns like hand blocked tile.

I really like HM designs, but in the end the colours in the design we liked didn't work with the tile and furniture we chose

Ceramic tiles. It's important to put a hardboard floor as a base down first, otherwise the tiles may break.

Bamboo. I wasn't keen at first but DS is a builder and did half the house. It's sealed and it looks beautiful. Any water just sits on top. It's not expensive either, and it's sustainable as it's a grass, not wood. They sort of cook it to bring out the sugars.
