They just seem a bit tacky( unless I have t discovered a descent brand.

Don’t want tiles, haven’t got floorboards so guessing lino is it?

We have stick-on black vinyl tiles. They’re brilliant, as well as being cheap. We used to have an expensive proper tiled floor, but the grout shifted and tiles became loose. We’d never have tiles again.

For anybody interested, I’ve just discovered Tapi. You can upload a pic of your room. If you select the colour you’re interested in they show loads of options. On the greys there seems to be quite a few non faux wood/tile options. You can then see what your room looks like with it. Along with the areas that need attention! So going to have to sort out skirting. 😬

I am looking at sheet vinyl as my floor is too uneven for other options and I don't want to spend lots because I will change the bathroom in a few years. I think I've found one or two wood effect sheet vinyls that look like they might be ok. I hate anything tacky so I am taking my time with choosing and have ordered loads of samples.

I looked at sheet vinyl and got this too. My auntie used to own her own tile company so we’d get trade costs/mates rates and sometimes freebies. The amount of people my aunt said who went for white tiles (all or most of her tiles were Italian) and then complained about it to her afterwards. She did business as well as non business. I had the tiles (white). But they’re such a bugger to clean and show up every little hair or mark.

You can get vinyl flooring custom printed. It looks surprisingly affordable. (E.g https://www.printdesigns.com/printing/custom-printed-vinyl-flooring).

I think a map would look great. Wish I'd found this before ordering the boring fake tiles I settled for!

Marmoleum is great. We did our kitchen in it. It is warm to walk on and you can sand scuffs out so it is much more long lasting rhan vinyl.

You could also maybe look at rubber flooring?
Marmoleum and rubber are both non plastic so and better ecologically if that's a concern for you.

PontiacFirebird · 08/09/2024 10:00

So, Marmoleum is basically old school Lino. As Pp says, it’s non toxic and eco friendly. It’s also naturally anti microbial I think ( is that the right term?)
Im getting it in my kitchen when I have cash to renovate. I would probably go for any colour but grey though! You can do tile patterns with it too. It’s mainly used in commercial settings as it’s so hard wearing.

Giggorata · 08/09/2024 10:10

We've got the original wooden floorboards, with yacht varnish. Instead of tiles, we have half panelling, also with yacht varnish.
It's the reverse of a clinical modern bathroom and quite cosy.

Bubb13Wrap · 08/09/2024 10:10

Where can you get Marmoleum from?

OP posts:
Geneticsbunny · 08/09/2024 10:37

You can buy it on a roll on the internet but you will want a specialist fitter. We got ours from a local large independent carpet place. If you Google recommended marmoleum fitters in your area you should find someone.

Hoppinggreen · 08/09/2024 10:44

Bubb13Wrap · 08/09/2024 09:15

Actually Marmoleum has some nice greys. Does anybody know anything about it?

Bugger to fit as it has to be sealed and its harder to work with than vinyl.
In fact Marmoleum is the only mention of ACTUAL Lino on here, generally when people say Lino on here thery mean sheet vinyl. Its short for Linoleum, which is a completely different product and has to be treated differently, a lot of floor fitters now can't or won't fit it - or think they can and mess it up
I have wood effect LVT in 2 bathrooms and then sheet vinyl that looks like tiles in the other. The LVT (actually planks) looks really good and we have it in all the bedrooms and downstairs too. Easy to clean and is waterproof, although I don't absolutely soak it
Apologies for the lecture but I used to work for a large floor manufacturer.

Just4thisthreadtoday · 08/09/2024 10:48

I have large tiles, they've been down 10 years this year, they still look good as new & aren't cold.

love them.

bluecomputerscreen · 08/09/2024 10:52

wood effect tiles.

Pinkywoo · 08/09/2024 11:01

A friend has cork flooring in her bathroom. It's warm under foot, waterproof, eco friendly and mould resistant.

twohotwaterbottles · 08/09/2024 11:11

Have you looked at Karndean?

focacciamuffin · 08/09/2024 11:15

Thick carpet. I don’t recommend it and it’s not staying!

Epoxy is the solution - waterproof, no staining or discolouration. It does need an experienced tiler to apply correctly though.

BiliousOhGod · 08/09/2024 12:02

Natural rubber tiles. Warm underfoot, easy to keep clean, waterproof (as long as laid / sealed correctly). I was half tempted to go for the textured ones, but they did look a bit lego-y. 😀

I think my stepdad had similar tiles years ago in a seaside flat he had. It was a bit Lego like though. The man who’d done it up was an architect, think Lego tiles were in kitchen and plain Lino in bathroom which had original black and white tiles and an art deco style, theme. This was in a top floor flat in a Georgian seafront naice town.

I have never understood why products like vinyl flooring are so rubbish in terms of design and colour. Surely you could do any design or colour so why so limited?
OP have you thought about marmoleum? It comes in every colour you can think of.

Yes, this bugs me as well. And always seem to be slightly behind current trends. Still so much grey. I would really like those small black and white hexagon tiles but, because the room is so small, I'm happy to have vinyl. But I have never found in this design. Why not? It is so classic.

My bathroom is full of samples and still not one I really love.

I did have vinyl from the coloured flooring company. Would not recommend all one colour in a bathroom again. Shows every hair.

allgrownupnow · 08/09/2024 14:01

We have the rubber from the colour flooring company. I wish we'd gone with the yellow but it was vetoed by others on the house, have a lovely blue. Warm and comfy underfoot and easy to clean.

Slate is lovely - not cold, not slippery, looks good and easy to clean

dontseethem · 08/09/2024 14:05

We have rubber tiles. I love them. Bought from outlet on eBay - also got it for the kitchen

mugglewump · 08/09/2024 14:08

We have rubber tiles in our bathrooms and I love them. They are easy to clean, totally waterproof and warm underfoot.

Wineandcupcakes · 08/09/2024 14:15

We have porcelain in the main bathroom and en-suite, and are about to have travertine stone tiles put in th4 downstairs loo, but they require maintenance, grout is fine if you use an anti bacterial grout and clean. It depends on the look you’re going for. I’m not a fan of line or vinyl myself
