They just seem a bit tacky( unless I have t discovered a descent brand.

Don’t want tiles, haven’t got floorboards so guessing lino is it?

I have Lino in the bathroom, it’s a thicker product so it’s soft and warm, but easy to clean too

Meadowfinch · 08/09/2024 08:44

I spent ages looking - most of the designs are ghastly, grey & beige dreary. Home decoration that could drive you to drink !

I finally went with black & white check vinyl. Everything else is white. I've added green & white stripe towels, a dragon tree, a spider plant that cascades down the shelving and a cheese plant. It gives a sort of "Palm Court" look, and is very calming.

We went with a wood effect waterproof LVT click, with a waterproof membrane under it upstairs. Porcelain times downstairs with underfloor heating.

Chasingsquirrels · 08/09/2024 08:46

I'm currently choosing for an ensuite refit.

The room has had carpet for 25 years from new, we brought 23 years ago.

For me, my criteria where

  • NOT carpet.
  • Not tiles. The tiles we had in the kitchen were always so cold, I know I could have underfloor heating but it seems a waste for a room used infrequently.
  • Not wood. Just don't want a wood effect, and don't want wood with the water anyway.

We went and looked at a flooring showroom last weekend at LVT and also sheet vinyl.

I was quite surprised by the sheet vinyl and how cushioned it was and though this would definitely be an option.

I think I am going to go for a grey marble effect LVT tile without stripping. I'm already having colour in the shower tiles and furniture and think more colour on the floor will be too much.

Dreamingofgoldfinchlane · 08/09/2024 08:47

Tiles - wetrooms with UFH. LVT is awful.

Bubb13Wrap · 08/09/2024 08:48

Problem is I don’t want faux floorboards or terracotta tiles iykwim so struggling with design as regards Lino.

Apologies decent, not descent!

Won’t water get between an LVT tile?

I've got LVT in the kitchen and utility (wood plank effect "tiles").
The fit is 6mm ply, latex screed, waterproof adhesive, "tiles".

We had a flood a couple of years ago and the flooring was totally undamaged.

InfoSecInTheCity · 08/09/2024 08:51

We have charcoal slate waterproof LVT with a layer of plywood under to make sure the floor was even. We didn't want Lino, but also didn't want cold tiles so these were perfect and feel lovely under foot.

Sounds nice.

Was considering the same but have a small, grey and white stone trim we’ve inherited with the white tiles ( looks better than it sounds so might compete).

Completely stumped!

No - they put ply underneath anyway.

We've ordered sheet vinyl for our bathroom. Went for a parquet look. We put sheet vinyl in our old kitchen and lots of people thought it was wood. I like LVT but want we wanted was hugely expensive as it was made to order so we picked something else we liked and it happened to be sheet vinyl at a fraction of the cost.

Chasingsquirrels · 08/09/2024 08:54

The flooring showroom we went to had books and books of sheet vinyl designs, there were so many to choose from - loads of different designs.

nationalsausagefund · 08/09/2024 08:55

Plain vinyl block colour from the colour flooring company. Wanted just sanded floorboards but they weren’t in a state to save; plumber talked me out of tiles as it would have created a step into the room. Aesthetically I’d have preferred the tiles but then I dropped DS’s poonami nappy on the floor and thanked the angels for the vinyl…

Courgettelady · 08/09/2024 08:57

I am looking at sheet vinyl as my floor is too uneven for other options and I don't want to spend lots because I will change the bathroom in a few years. I think I've found one or two wood effect sheet vinyls that look like they might be ok. I hate anything tacky so I am taking my time with choosing and have ordered loads of samples.

Sounds promising, could you link?

So LVT tiles are waterproof? We’re renovating 2 inherited bathrooms ourselves with a view to completely redo further down the line so I guess Lino would make sense but could afford LVT tiles as both rooms are small.

Are LVT designs better? Does the floor underneath need attention first?

Where are you ordering the samples from? The shop I went to had no samples but let me borrow a couple of books. Not liking any. 😫

Oak effect lvt vinyl here too.

I didn't want tiles as don't like having cold feet in winter. Sheet vinyl was an option, but couldn't find any that didn't look fake, especially as I was trying to avoid cold greys/whites.

So lvt it was. It's totally waterproof and rated for a bathroom. I like that it adds a bit of warm colour to the space and isn't cold to stand on.

We've also got a few wooden open shelves on the wall and only half tiles so it all fits in

Nitgel · 08/09/2024 09:04

We just used vinyl. A subtle design as pic. I always think vinyl is easier if there is a leak needs investigating. Looks nice and is soft.

mondaycando1 · 08/09/2024 09:05

@Bubb13Wrap I feel your pain - I had to have vinyl for DIY/ cost reasons and everything was either faux wood or faux tile effect. I ended up looking at contract flooring options as you'd see in schools or hospitals etc as they had block colour designs. This was one of the companies I looked at but can't find who I actually used for the bathroom but was definitely under £15/ sqm flooringking.co.uk/vinyl-flooring/speckled-sheet-vinyl-flooring/

PontiacFirebird · 08/09/2024 09:06

I have never understood why products like vinyl flooring are so rubbish in terms of design and colour. Surely you could do any design or colour so why so limited?
OP have you thought about marmoleum? It comes in every colour you can think of.

Exactly this!!

Actually Marmoleum has some nice greys. Does anybody know anything about it?

We had LVT click flooring in the bathroom.
Water got in and it lasted a year.
Now have Lino.

GoogleWhacking · 08/09/2024 09:18

I have wooden effect LVT I two of my bathrooms and a granite effect lino in the master en suite, tiles in the downstairs toilet due to under floor heating.

I love both the lino and the LVT, both totally waterproof. I think the lino is softer and warmer.
