It’s currently grey and white. This is it at its darkest. More light mid afternoon. Very bright when the lights on

We have a similarly dingy room and brightening with lighter paint doesn't work. We've gone with a mid teal shade - I read that a "muddy" version of a colour works best. Or you could go dark and cosy. As long as the lighting is right it can work well. You could also use a bold wallpaper above the panelling.

@NigelHarmansNewWife thank you, it’s a tricky room. I agree white doesn’t work. Like the idea of teal

You can buy light reflecting paint which works well; we had it in the bedroom and it was almost too bright at times!

Dark wallpaper in a print and loads of atmospheric lighting - either side of mirror, basically side lights/ candles/fairy lights

A room that dark you have to play up the dark
