IKEA Hemnes Daybed

I'm thinking of converting our downstairs guest room to a playroom. it currently has a king bed.
We have occasional overnight guests so was thinking of changing it to the Hemnes daybed from IKEA. Is this comfortable? Would it be suitable for grandparents for occasional overnight stays? Have browsed at sofa beds online, anything that looks anyway comfortable is quite expensive, but would appreciate any suggestions!

Depends. I find it really comfy as the single with double mattress. When extended to the double size so single mattress per side, I find it uncomfortable, not enough padding. My (adult) kids find it fine though and adult DD still has friends sleep together if they come back to ours after a night out. But they are all thin people, who don’t make much of an indent, whereas DH and I are fatties🤣. So, maybe depends on the grandparents?

Dd uses it as a single but I bought a proper mattress for it as she was not comfy. The thin ikea ones maybe ok for occasional use though.

Same. We had one for years but it was never used as a double and only one occasionally as a single.

It's alright for occasional stays. I wouldn't say the mattresses would be comfortable for a long stay though, although they aren't horrible.

The bars around the outside can be restricting for an adult too. I would get a different high bed and dress it like a sofa, or just get the lyksele sofa bed- very comfy.

We bought thicker mattresses, very comfy but the footplate can be a problem if two tall people are using it as a double, also clambering over the other person if you need to get out.

Definitely buy the best mattress that you can - not a foam-one.

For occasional overnights for two people it would be OK, although one person will have to clamber over the other, which might be an issue for those who are less flexible!

Two thin mattresses work great as a sofa or single bed but are bad as a double.
Two thick mattresses don’t work as a sofa unless you stand one behind the bed.

When it’s pulled out, you have to climb over each other to get in and out- as though it’s against a wall.

Apart from that it’s great 🤣

They're great for occasional use. I find it comfortable enough.

We have one in our guest room but bought different mattresses as the IKEA ones when it’s out as a double I found really uncomfy and it’s usually my grandparents who sleep on it. We just pop the extra mattress away in the loft when it’s set up as a sofa x

Yes the bars might be restrictive alright. Just looked at the lyksele, that does look good! Do you think it would be too low for elderly people getting in and out?

Hmm. I don't think of it as low, ours has had all sorts sleeping on it, but not older people (unless you count dh 53!!)
