How to style this drawers set up. So bland!

I have recently against my better judgement replaced come old drawers with a run of two sets of Malm drawers and a new Malm bed with drawers under it.
The temptation is to load washing / stuff on them but I would rather "style " them or put some stuff on them like a plant? Mirrored tray for maybe a dish for jewellery? I feel like if they have designated stuff on top, they would be less of a dumping ground ! Anyway that's the hope. I'm about to add a rug under the bed as the floor is very boring too.
Any ideas ? I go on Pinterest but get lost and like you lot better if anyone doesn't mind giving their ideas. Pls don't just tell me to google. I can do that once I have a few starting points and I like others to inspire me which I think is ok

I put fabric runners on quite a lote of surfaces, old pashmina work well as they are quite narrow so they won’t stop the drawers opening or get tangled in them. Then you can put other things like baskets for ‘stuff’ on top and it looks less like clutter.

I always buy a glass top.

I would put a mirror on the wall then some candles or other decorative pieces. Is there a socket nearby for a lamp?

I have a Hemnes so equally white and looming and bland. I have a mirrored tray, my jewellery box and a vase of silk flowers on it so it looks ‘dressed’ and that stops me dumping stuff on there. There’s a large framed picture on the wall behind it. It’s one of my favourite little spaces.

Oh lovely thanks so much. Just found a mirror on the Ikea app I might put up.

There is indeed a socket and I have a spare lamp but I'm not keen on it so might look for a new one

A nice wallpaper with glass on the top? You can change it if you get bored or add other things like photos or postcards.

Fushia123 · 26/08/2024 09:44

@RandomMess - where do you buy suitable glass that fits? Do you use ordinary glass or something special with bevelled edges?

DamnYerEyes · 26/08/2024 09:49

Could you paint the wall behind for a bit of contrast to the white drawers?

Get some cute bookends and have a row of books.

RandomMess · 26/08/2024 09:58

@Fushia123 we order from a localish glass place. It's tempered glass they cut to whatever size you want. Shop around one place is much cheaper than others.

I'm sure ikea sell them for malm anyway?

joolsella · 26/08/2024 10:06

Oh my. Love this idea!! Wonder if I can get glass cut elsewhere as can't be arsed to go to Ikea

Google local glass cutters. They are generally very polite and used to random non tradespeople turning up to ask for weird bits of glass.

I think@RandomMess said it's best to buy tempered glass and get them to bevel the edge so it isn't sharp?

RandomMess · 26/08/2024 21:06

Our local one calls itself a glass merchants.

Just tell them what it's for and it comes all safe and smooth, we even get free delivery if I wait until they are already in the area.

Surely this is where all the odd socks go?
