Paint Satinwood over Emulsion Skirting Boards.

Hi everyone.

Me and DH have been decorating and by mistake we painted all the skirting and woodwork in our bedroom with dulux white emulsion. We sanded the woodwork, applied the priner and painted 2 coats before realising our mistake.

We want to paint over this in Satinwood but when I tested this on a small area the finish was really patchy. I'm assuming I will now have to prep the woodwork again before painting- do I need to sand and prime again? Or can I just sand down and paint over it.

Absolutely gutted that we've made this mistake and would appreciate it if anyone can advise what the easiest and less time consuming way would be to rectify it.

Using Dulux quick dry satinwood if that makes any difference.

No you can paint straight over with the satinwood

The emulsion should act in the same way as undercoat, and you should be able to paint satinwood over it.

The patchy appearance will go away with a second coat of paint. The emulsion is acting as an undercoat so get another coat on it & all good

Thanks all. I'll wait for this coat to dry and then go over it again. Should I sand between the coats?

Get a coat on and see how it looks. Maybe a light sanding but modern paint goes on lovely and brush strokes settle out.
