Can I replace skirting boards myself?

am I being naive for thinking I could replace the skirting boards in this room of our new house? We’re getting carpets put in and will repaint. Skirting boards are so bad though!

Yes it's easy. I would go for a profile higher than what you currently have to cover up any damage on the wall. Get primed mdf skirting from Wickes/B&Q and you just need a mitre block for the corners. Will look lovely!

Yes, it's quite an easy DIY task, but you will need the right tools (a mitre box for one) and measure carefully (you can use the old skirting board for a guide initially).

Have a look on YouTube for instruction videos.

Cant you improve what's there?
Sand them down, perhaps add beading to the top to make them taller and look nicer then prime/paint etc.?

And get ones with a nice profile. Apart from mitres in the corners you may have to make inline joins if the walls are long. Youtube is your friend. It may be a mess taking the old ones down, some lunatics use long nails to fix them. And watch out the carpet fitters don't cut against them and damage your nice new skirting.

Is the wood flooring fitted underneath it? If it is it might need to be removed to remove the floor.
