Had our stair carpet down about 4 years not and I hate it. It looks a totally different colour now which will be cos its dirty. Its been cleaned a few times but never comes up looking new it’s disgusting.
Has anyone had a stair carpet down a few years that still looks as good and lasted well. Dont want to make the same mistake again and get the wrong one.

Watching with great interest...

Me too. Stair carpets are dirt gatherers

Yes. We have 80/20 wool nylon. It’s a twist type with a dense fibre count. It’s in a holiday house and still great after 15 years. These carpets are great for stairs but are not cheap.

Another tip: colour. Never have a pale colour. Twist can come in natural blended colours which keeps looking smart. Go for mid muted colours. Not dark but that can work too in the right house.

We have this Roger Oates runner which is as good as new after three and a half years. Expensive, though.

Turkish. That is lovely

Don't go for a plain, pale coloured one! My current one is mottled beige/cream/brown flecks (sounds awful). It's probably filthy but you can't tell because it's not a solid block colour.

Ugh! I'm just about to get a cream coloured runner for our stairs but hadn't really thought it would get dirty. We always take our shoes off before we go upstairs and our current (14 year old) stair carpet isn't dirty.

Our is 30 years old and 80/20 wool - and still going strong. It’s been cleaned many times and comes up great. It’s a dark flecky beige and doesn’t show the dirt.

Ours is 80/20 wool too and still looks fine (4 years old). Again, it's a mottled fleck colour not plain and so stains aren't really visible. Definitely don't get cream!

Westex 80/20 twist has 120 colours. Brintons Bell Twist 50 colours. Cormar usually have lots too. John Lewis carpet partnership gone into administration. They used to have very well priced twist carpets.
