Would you recommend gloss kitchen cupboards?

TIA

Nope
You will spend your life wiping the fingerprints off.

I have them, good choice at the time but I use a long handled pole with a cleaning head on it to constantly wipe them down. It isn't just finger prints you see but every drip or drop of water on them too. My children are both adults, I have had these gloss cabinets 11 years. I am painting them next year. The pole cleaner stops me bending down to clean each base cabinet door. The upper cabinets don't need as much attention.

Nope. They’re easy to clean marks off of which is a benefit, but they never actually look clean. You can always see lines where you’ve wiped them or a fingerprint.
If I ever get to choose my kitchen I wouldn’t get gloss.

I've had them and didn't find them too much hassle but they were the in thing and worth it to have something totally trendy and different. That was 18 years ago. I think they are pretty dated now

Agree especially when you dont have handles!

MonsteraMama · 15/08/2024 20:41

Absolutely not. Our kitchen had gloss when we bought our current house and I got rid of them as soon as possible. I'll never have gloss, granite or marble again!

Shiremum40 · 15/08/2024 20:42

No.

EasilyDisturbed · 15/08/2024 20:45

Yes, but ours have handles. They do show marks but they wipe off in a moment with a damp microfibre cloth which doesn’t leave any smears (ours are whilte, it might be different on a dark colour). They light up the kitchen in a way our old matt ones just didn’t.

We have Ikea cream gloss cabinets. They never show fingerprints. Go to IKEA and look at a few cabinet doors and test them yourself. Our kitchen is 14 yrs old still looks like new.
Maybe the gloss other people are talking about are different...

doubleshift · 15/08/2024 20:53

Our gloss cabinet in the bathroom (white) has hugely discoloured- yuk. Thank goodness it isn't a whole kitchen!

AppleDumplingWithCustard · 20/08/2024 11:37

My gloss kitchen is six years old and looks the same as it did when brand new. I don’t constantly have to wipe fingerprints off but then I have handles.

Depends how old your kids are/if you have kids.

Mine were under 7 years when we had gloss and they were the bane of my life! (The kids and the unitsGrin)

PurplePanda1 · 24/08/2024 13:26

Thank you for the replies. I’m not sure what cupboards to choose. Most of the units now seem to be matt, are they painted or some kind of vinyl?

I thought I'd read that glossy units were easier to keep clean! I just had dark Matt units in my last house and it was almost impossible to get rid of smudges and splash marks!
Maybe Matt units in light colours don't have this issue?

That’s interesting to hear about the dark matt units. I do wonder about the lighter colour matt units.
