Alcove Cabinets - Insane Pricing?

Hi,

I just wanted to check if our expectations for this has been way too low or if the three companies that quoted us are taking the piss.

We are looking for 2 typical bookshelves with cabinets for our alcoves in a typical Victorian house in NE London.

Now the quotes we got for those two bookshelves:

  • 8500-9000£ incl. painting and fitting
  • 4000-5000£ incl. painting but not with F&B
  • 3700£ without painting or fitting.

Now our expectations were around 3000£ including painting and fitting but seemingly we are way off?

Has anyone else had any experience with similar work lately and would care to share their quotes / anyone with anyone to recommend for this kind of work?

Hi, I would say that's a lot! I would be interested what sort of company is quoting you that much. My internal doors from my kitchen to conservatory are double doors with a frame each side of the doors with glass so custom made and cost me <£2000. I contacted a local carpenter recommended through Nextdoor - he measured up, I chose the wood and paint colour and it was completed within 2 days.

Also, I struggled to find anything for my alcove in my kitchen for my 1930's house. In the end I couldnt find any dressers that I liked or were a reasonable price so actually went for IKEA until I find something I like or have the time for upcycling.
