Hard flooring in upstairs living room?

Posted this in DIY but realised would be better here!

We are buying a townhouse where the living room is on the first floor. The flooring throughout the house will need replacing, and I am not sure what would work in the living room. I have only lived in Victorian houses with wood/LVT/laminate flooring in the living room and I wouldn't particularly choose carpet but I am not sure if hard flooring would look odd in an upstairs room?

Currently they have LVT downstairs (kitchen diner), and carpet on stairs, landings, first floor living room and bedroom, and second floor bedrooms. It's an early 2000s build so no nice floorboards hiding I would think.

Does anyone have any good ideas?

I would probably do hard flooring up through the stairs to the living room, then carpet from living room stairs up to the bedrooms. I think it would separate it more. You could do a big rug in living room and a stair runner along the stairs up to the lounge.
