Hello! We are buying a house that is a small semi. It has a living room then arch into a very small dining room. The kitchen is through a door and is not open plan.

Does anyone have such a house and any hints about making the living room cosy and less of a tunnel feel? Like how to organise the seating? Thanks

Reinstate the wall between the sitting room and dining room. Then knock the kitchen and diner into one.

We had that in previous house and put the sofa just in front of the arch, to distinguish between the two spaces

You could buy/make a nice screen to separate the two rooms.

Exactly as @skippy67 says. My front room has large double doors so it can be closed off if need be. The middle room (what would have been the back before extension) is still the kitchen, and you walk from the hall in to it (that's where the hall ends) . The old back wall of the house was removed and with the extension it has basically becone a large kitchen/diner with a wall of glass looking over the garden. I'm sitting here now at the table looking out.
Often that middle room is the dining room but in reality becomes a walkthrough dead space. Put the kitchen there and table at the back. Floor plan attached.

Ooh that's got me thinking and it never even occurred to me as an option. Thanks.

Our 1930s semi was completely open plan when we bought it. So sitting room led into dining room, which led to kitchen at the back. We lived with it for a while, but decided we wanted a cosier feel to the living room, so reinstated the wall between the two front rooms. Best thing we've done in the house so far.
