TV over fireplace.

I know it’s a bit marmite!

Trying to decide whether to do this or not. I’ll start by saying I’m really not sure and keep swaying back and forth.

Current fireplace is a very large red brick inglenook fireplace which is far too big for the room. It is original to the house. But the house was built in 2018. So no ripping out of historical features. There is a small log burner which we never use as the house is very well insulated and warm enough not to need a fire lightning for heat. DH wear T-shirts even in winter.

So we are definitely changing the fireplace.

And DH and DS are keen on putting the tv over the fireplace. And I think we would go for one of those electric long narrow fires.

But I’m not sure I’ll like it!

The only houses I’ve been in with an over mantle fireplace have baffled me how they watch tv without neck ache. It’s just too high. I also think, if it’s on a party wall (which many media walls seem to be), it’s horribly selfish to the neighbours!

Its put me off houses on Rightmove tbh as I don’t want the faff to fix the plaster/wiring etc.

We are very detached so don’t need to worry about neighbours. DH is concerned about height. But I think we can get it at the right height so people don’t need to look up.

im still unsure!

We have it above the electric fireplace in our house, it was there when we moved as previous people left it behind.

It's way too high but unfortunately no other way to set up the room so we are stuck with it.

Fortunately don't watch much tv anymore, mostly replaced by staring at my phone 😬
