Do you use candles and in which occasions?

I love candles and treat myself to 3-4 nice ones (not too expensive but not even ikea) every year but then I never want to use them as I feel like it's a bit of a waste. Bad way of thinking, I know.
Anyway, I recently came across a lovely home tour in a blog where I saw the person uses a lot of candlesticks with 'normal' (not scented) candles burning all the time, it made the apartment look so incredibly cozy, it helped that it was a scandi home I guess, I love their style. I just wandered whether people normally burn candles (also not scented ones) around the home just to get a nice atmosphere and, if so, in what occasions do you tend to use them?
If you have cats, how do you keep them away from them? I always worry mine will cause a fire!

I never use candles since spilling a lot of wax down a suede skirt during a power cut many years ago. I also cannot stand the awful pongs that the scented ones give off. If I go anywhere that sells them I tend to have a sneezing fit.

I love lighting loads of them all round the room for an evening in - some in candlesticks, some grouped on a tray etc. It makes the room look so pretty.

I always used to save them for best and then went to light one and it had no smell, almost like being on show had weakened it so decided to enjoy them. I have crackle wick ones I use in the evenings when reading over autumn/winter when I don't have the fire going for background noise.

I use realistic battery or rechargeable ones only. Lighted ones are gorgeous for sure, but with too many accidents on furniture and being knocked over (at gatherings often with too much vino taken!), I only use the fake ones now.

You can get some great fake ones now, flickering, coloured, moody all the rest of it, and the effect is similar when the lights are low or off.

I have some and light them through the darker gloomy months. I love them! Scented though, things like lemongrass and ginger,
something a bit warm and spicy, nothing sweet. I find Nest and AromaWorks to be quite good for scents.

I light unscented candles on the dinner table pretty much every evening. I light scented candles for an hour or so if I have cooked fish, or the dog has farted or to make the bathroom smell nice.

We use them all year. Mainly tea lights in deep holders, along the fire place and on the coffee table. I sometimes use a scented candle in a jar too, cinnamon at Xmas or a heavy floral scent on a warm summer's evening.
We use tea lights in the garden as well, dotted around in rammekins. I mix in a few citronella ones to deter the mosquitoes. It gives a wonderful atmosphere.

I use the LED sort especially at Halloween and Christmas. Real ones remind me of winter power cuts in my childhood. Also, the fire risk.

Hobbiesareapita · 25/06/2024 12:03

Never Too much of a fire risk !

I use LED ones instead of tealights at Christmas which sit inside little ceramic decorations. Otherwise, I never light candles in the home.
