Best place to buy a bed and mattress?

Hi, I'm buying furniture for my first place, and I'm finding the process of buying a bed a wee bit overwhelming. I'm looking at getting a double bed. I THINK I want an ottoman bed for the extra storage, not sure what mattress to get either (I'm a side sleeper). Any recommendations on where to buy a good bed and mattress?

Budget wise, I'm thinking around £1,500? All advice welcome. Thanks!

Is there an IKEA near you OP?
I find they have quite a few different types you can look at both online and in person and the shops themselves aren't nearly as intimidating as a bed shop. I'd get a reasonably priced base and spend the bulk of the money on the mattress. You can try lots of different ones in IKEA without the sales man standing right next to you (or laying down next to you as they guy in our local shop did to me).

I bought a frame from a wood furniture place as I wanted a good wooden bed, mattresses we got from John Lewis and The Mattress Man I think it's called
Kids had IKEA beds which are great to be honest. All have firm mattresses with a decent memory foam topper which were about £100 from ilea too - everyone loves them

The ikea malm ottoman is great and you can put any mattress that you like on top as they’re all uk sizes now.

there are loads of different mattresses to try in store

Jysk have the best ever memory foam mattresses.
Mine has cooling gel in.
Sale is on..
The Gold one like mine is usually £800 .. it's now half price.
I'd go in and try them out.
Far superior to IKEA.. Dormeo etc.

@LilianaVikavanovich how was delivery from Dusk? I had looked at them but there's quite a few online reviews mentioning delivery delays and not great customer service.

@NoIdeaWhyNow we only ordered it on Thursday , so can’t help

DS bought one from them for his flat , so it couldn’t arrive until they moved in , the mattress arrived first so they slept on that until the base arrived

I’ll keep you updated 👍

Warren Evans.

Agree with OP, we love our Warren Evans bed we got about a year ago.

Netcam · 19/05/2024 22:29

You would get a really good mattress and frame and can get under bed storage boxes from them too. Probably about right for your budget, much better quality than the IKEA bed we got for DS.

Also, I would go for a pocket sprung mattress. Ours is 1500, which Warren Evans don't do anymore, but the 1200 is probably fine, or the 2000 if you can afford it.

Thanks @Copperoliverbear and @Netcam hadn't come across Warren Evans before. There's some good options there so will try and make it to their showroom this weekend.
