Cat-proof looped carpet?

I'm looking for carpet for my stairs and landing that is cat-claw proof, but so far I've not seen a cut-pile one that I like. I'm drawn to looped designs, especially herringbone, but my cat will probably enjoy scratching at it.

Has anyone found a looped type of carpet that wears OK with cat scratching? Wool, synthetic, or mixed? I'm thinking I might just go for the flattest looped synthetic carpet I can find and hope for the best, but would love to hear others' experiences.

We have cats and went for a looped carpet, despite the carpet fitter's advice against it. Don't do it.

Nope, no such thing. Sorry.

Watching with interest as we have a wooden stairs that either needs sanding or covering. I am tempted by carpet but am concerned about damage and maintenance. We have pets (cats and one dog) so the sanding/revarnishing might be a safer option but I am 50/50 at the moment and could definitely go for carpet if there was a cat proof one out there!

We went for a tight flatweave carpet for the stairs to be more catproof. On the plus side, the cat doesn’t scratch it. On the minus side, it has worn terribly and is lethally slippery. Maybe a top quality flatweave would have done better, ours was fairly inexpensive, not sure.

Now looking for something to replace it so watching for any ideas.

We've got a low loop in one bedroom and sisal in the hallways and the cats don't scratch either of them. They actually like to scratch the short pile stuff I got put down upstairs and in the spare rooms for some reason.

One of them does however wee on the sisal. I suspect thats specific to her though.

When buying upholstery fabric the salesman said that it was childproof and dogproof. WhenI asked if it was cat proof he said that there was no such thing! Same gies for carpets, having had cats I agree with him.

I agree with PP. the only thing that stops them scratching really are numerous posts etc around the place.
