Matching existing paint colour- electronic tool?

I have a room in my house that I was doing some work on and accidentally damaged some of the wall. I painted over it with a tester pot but it doesn't match the wall and looks dreadful! I don't have the time to repaint the whole room and it's an awkward room to redecorate as well. I also like the existing paint colour. Is there some reliable tool I can buy to paint match? I saw something for £50 on Amazon but one reviewer said it's for Australia. If anyone has used a colour matching tool then i would love to hear aboht it.

Nope. You'll never get a paint off the shelf to match it exactly, whatever tool you use. Just the tiniest difference in amount of colorant added, and your eye is likely to be able to pick it up.

If the room is tricky to re-do, could you turn the wall with the damage into a feature wall? Is the damage somewhere that can be covered by furniture or a picture?

Could you take some chips of the paint to be colour matched at a DIY store?

The human eye is capable of picking up thousands of nuances of colour. No machine will be able to replicate your colour exactly for the purpose you have in mind. It would be a waste of time and money to try.

Why not repaint one section in white or another neutral or a complimentary colour? You would have a better result.

It doesn't have to be perfect but similar to this:

Take your colour sample to a paint supplier's. They will match it as closely as possible. You will still need to repaint the entire section/ wall.

Let us know if you were pleased with the result.
