So I've found a wallpaper I love but finding it difficult to visualise the whole room covered in it.

Pics attached- curtains will stay. I'm going for cosy glamour (it's my bedroom).

I'm worried it will just be "too much" if the whole room is done in it, and that would be an expensive mistake!

Could anyone please give me their thoughts? I know it won't be to everyone's taste, but purely from the point of view of how do I visualise this without buying loads of the wallpaper!?!

Hi we just did the headboard wall in a decorative paper, the other walls are just painted off white/cream. Initially I did the feature wall in a darker shade and it was too much, so stripped it off and repapered with a lighter shade paper. Probably similar shade to your paper, our curtains are similar colour to yours too.
Unless you have a large bedroom I think doing all walls in that paper might be too much - but everyone has different tastes.

Thanks for your reply - it's not that big a room it's a medium/small double. I wanted to avoid a feature wall but maybe that's the way forward ..

Can you not find pictures on Pinterest or wherever of entire rooms in that paper?

MokaEfti · 13/04/2024 14:27

PS FWIW carpet will be a plain light beigney/taupey/cream. Bed is a French style one, medium oak, with woven detail in head and foot. No other furniture except for fitted wardrobe and bedside table, as there is a dressing room with other furniture.

Diana I guess I could try - not sure how likely it will be that I can find the exact wallpaper but it's a good idea, surely I can find a close match. Thank you!

I think it's hideous. Like the wall has gone mouldy. Sorry.

I’m sorry but from the pics, on my screen it also looks mouldy, or, at best like a cave that’s deep underground.

It must look better in reality, but I think it’s going to close the walls in if it’s on all four.

nickelbabe · 13/04/2024 17:55

If you're worried it'll be too much, do one or two walls in it.
then sit with it for a bit and see.
You might want to continue or just paint the rest.

nickelbabe · 13/04/2024 17:55

Can we have pics of the room?

MumUndone · 13/04/2024 17:57

If it's a bedroom and you're going for the 'luxe' look and have appropriate furniture then it could work

ViciousCurrentBun · 13/04/2024 17:57

Looks like it could make a wall look like the inside of a Victorian workhouse.

ZenNudist · 13/04/2024 17:57

It's part of that trend for industrial look. I was quite keen on similar (was looking at white flecked gold and silver in industrial patterns). Preferred as more modern than floral pattern, but I decided to go for plastered painted walls and paintings instead.

I agree with pp that a feature wall with a toning plain plastered wall would be less full on.

If you like the paper go back and ask for a larger sample size. They should be able to give you a good size and you can offer to pay.

I don't think it's hideous like pp says. You need a bigger chunk if paper to decide how it's going to look in the room and in different light levels.

Also when it comes to wallpaper it's always very marmite and you've just got to go with what you love.

ZenNudist · 13/04/2024 17:59

To add. Don't put it with those curtains. Too close without matching. Gold on gold not good. Needs contrast.

Having realised its those curtains I agree it's a good feature wall and will look good in the same room not right next to the curtains.

MokaEfti · 13/04/2024 18:04

Hmm it definitely doesn't look mouldy I think that must be the pics. Good idea - do one wall and then decide to do more (or not)

Bed is very similar to this one

Except that mine has a footboard as well

Ps- to quote from my OP:

"I know it won't be to everyone's taste, but purely from the point of view of how do I visualise this without buying loads of the wallpaper!?!"

Therefore it's pointless to post comments such as "it's hideous" etc.

You're not sorry at all. Quite rude though.

caringcarer · 13/04/2024 18:32

I'd do the headboard wall in the lighter paper. The curtains look nice. I'd paint other walls Timeless. Maybe go for artwork on a couple of walls painted in the Timeless paint. I'm doing my bedroom in a couple of weeks. I've just had bathroom fitter in to do ensuite and had new large walk in shower and dark grey waterproof board things on the walls. I'm having pale pink roses on a silver grey background on the headboard wall and pale blush colour paint on other walls. DH didn't want to sleep in 'a rose garden' so only roses on one wall.

That is a horrible comment to make. It looks nothing like mould. Mould is black.

martinisforeveryone · 13/04/2024 18:45

There are several wallpaper visualiser apps, not that I’ve used one myself.
You might have to try a few to get one where you upload your own paper.

Giveupnow · 13/04/2024 18:54

I think it is quite a lot and probably all 4 walls would be too much. Are feature walls really that bad? There’s a reason they were so popular!

NigelHarmansNewWife · 13/04/2024 19:19

It's very similar to a lot of hotel wall finishes imo. I'd do one wall. I think your curtains need a luxury texture like velvet or heavy linen weave for contrast.

Rancid tower block vibes.
