Ercol Sofa

We are planning to buy an Ercol sofa tomorrow as there is 20% off. The sofa is nearly perfect for size and design, ok on colour but firm to sit on. Will we get used to it? Will the leather stretch and sag so should we get fabric?Should we look at another company? Currently in a traditional but old and saggy sprung sofa. We live in Central London and have excluded Stressless ( too modern) and Parker Knoll ( we are older but not that old)

That is very smart OP - and VERY spendy!

In my experience, real leather will not stretch or sag and is ideal if you have young children/pets/a clumsy husband. Leather is cold, though, so throws may be needed.

Whether you can get used to firmness of the 'sit' depends on what you are used to and what you like to do on your sofa. The one you have chosen will be ideal for you if you like to sit up! (We are floppers so need something with a more enveloping seat.)

I agree with the previous poster that it depends how you sit.

The arms would be too low for me on a fork sofa. I love a firm sofa but need an arm to lean against, otherwise one ends up too upright.

its the Ercol the design of the Forli sofa is so much better than other options. We agreed the firmness of the cushions was so great.

Gorgeous sofa. Ercol is a good brand so it'll last for decades. I suspect it feels firm because you're used to your old saggy sofa.

The only Ercol stuff worth having is the older craftsman-made wooden armchairs and sofas - which so many people cover with paint to make it modern. I have several Ercol wooden armchairs and they are a delight to look at and sit in (unless you are a 20stone man!) These are now worth hundreds.

I would not touch that sofa with a long bargepole. Do you like to rest your head when sitting? - the back of the sofa is so low!

But if you like modern - it is definately better than SCS or DFS 'leather' sofas!

I would put comfort before appearance for an expensive purchase like that.i like the style to look at but know from experience that if a sofa is uncomfortable it is an annoying and expensive millstone.
