I’d like to put a mirror or something else perhaps over my square fire .

I’ve attached a photo of something similar what shape mirror would look best? I don’t want it to look like the Playschool Windows 😅

I'd leave the wall bare.

I think a rectangular picture would look better than a mirror. Maybe something abstract on a canvas without a frame to match the style of the fireplace?

an abstract might be a good call.
DuchessofSausage I could leave it bare but it looks so very bare a🫣

I was thinking square/rectangular and frameless too, and I like bold large pictures. I didn't mention it because the photo looks a bit more staid than my (lack of?) taste.

The photo looks great but is a bit calm and reserved.

I don't like mirrors above fireplaces because they seem a bit of a hazard.

I do like the fireplace - it's a bit different.

My room doesn’t look like the photograph, just the bare chimney and the inset fireplace are very similar.

I'd put some art up there.

Thanks, I did think it might be from a marketing photo or that you were very houseproud.

That it is frameless is it's feature, so I'd work with that, and my instinct is to keep the wall bare, which is what the marketing people did.

Over my inset fireplace I have a large, colourful art print with a coloured mount in a wooden frame. The walls are pale so the picture is really a focal point. Then gave a large-ish mirror over the table with the vase of flowers on instead of a picture. 🌹
