What’s on trend?

what colour sofa would you buy if you were buying new? Has grey gone out of fashion now? What’s next?

we’ve been sofa shopping and very undecided. I’d like a light grey, DH would like dark blue

I'm not a fan of grey, it's cold and bland.
I much prefer the warmer earthy colours with lots of texture.
Cinnamon, terracotta, golden yellow, rust, olive green, browns and reds.

I have just bought a denim blue coloured sofa and really like it.

About to buy new ones after much deliberation we're going for navy

Etsy have some nice sofas, lots of different styles and colours. These are what I'm looking at.

It’s navy blue that DH has seen. We’ve only looked at DFS and sociology so far. There’s so much choice

The ones we're likely to get are from Next. They have a huge range of fabrics

Onemoret1me · 24/03/2024 07:03

Fabric v leather is also another debate we’re having g

We’ve looked at denim blue at DFS. Do you have a picture of your sofa?

I hate anything grey - grey carpets, grey walls, grey sofas and even grey cars. The only grey that I like is grey hair. It is so hard to buy anything without scrolling passed thousands of shades of grey.

I have recently bought a huge purple velvet sofa and I love it.

This is the denim blue, it's actually quite light.

Mine are seagrass, so a greeny duck egg

We have the joules patterdales from dfs, one in natural and one in mustard. They need hoovering weekly because of the velvet and the natural gives me the fear. We paid for all the stain repellant and it's worked wonders. They are so comfortable and we love the contrasting colours.

newwidowtobe · 29/03/2024 19:16

We have lime green for four years and still bloody love it !!

ClonedSquare · 29/03/2024 20:44

We have a deep blue velvet sofa and it's the least practical one I've ever had. We previously had a velvet sofa and it didn't attract cat hair or dust to anywhere near the same extent. I literally have to scrape fur off the sofa several times a day and hoover it several times a week. And we have a toddler who has left various light coloured stains on it. I can't wait to get rid of it.

Waitingforgeorge · 30/03/2024 08:31

Hard isn't it? 10 years ago beige was everywhere and everyone was bored with beige and then it moved to grey, now everyone hates grey. Green seems to be everywhere now - green is the answer to every "what colour?" question...so you could assume the overdose on green will result in green hate in a few years (if not now). So all you can do is choose a colour you like that's practical for your lifestyle. We bought a sofa two years ago - it's beige with removable covers and I am so glad I bought a sofa with removable/washable covers - even though we saw more beautiful sofas - but nothing looks good with a red wine stain. And don't buy a sofa from Etsy unless they have a local showroom - you need to sit on a sofa before you buy it. One thing someone told me when designing a room - buy the rug first and they were right - getting a rug to suit your room is the hardest thing - so consider finding a rug you like and matching the sofa and everything else to it!

This. I have an emerald velvet sofa..and never again. Looks beautiful but its a nightmare in regards to showing up even a little fluff..the pile moves in different directions so it looks like it's stained although its only 6 month old and no stains...expensive and really not worth it.
Id go for a dark red again or a brown next time...i like bohemian so it had to fit in. So i wouldn't go for velvet ...but i do love the light green Chesterfield someone posted

Don't buy an on trend colour, it'll go out of fashion. Just get a colour you like!

PoochiesPinkEars · 30/03/2024 08:40

Personally I don't like leather cos they are cold to sit on initially and take a while to warm up so you don't want to move position, and depending what you're wearing slidey too. I presume other people find leather comfortable as there are plenty around, but I don't know how.

JJathome · 30/03/2024 08:40

I’d not buy grey it’s so done, it’s cold, and quite hard to match stuff round, I’d also not do denim blue it’s quite dated.

I just bought a cream one for the smaller living room and a green armchair,

personally I think it depends on the room, but olive green, navy, and cream attract me,

This! There is particular shade of blue I like but can name it, not pastel and not dark, also some greens and oranges I like
