2 year old - worth getting a little table for colouring etc?

Parents of 2 year olds and slightly older. Was thinking about getting a small table for drawing, play-doy or jigsaws. Maybe the IKEA FLISAT or that H&M kids ‘desk.’

Does yours/ did yours use one? My husband thinks it’ll be a waste of money or just junk in the house. DS sits at little tables at nursery so it’s not like it’s alien to him.
PS he doesn’t like sitting at the kitchen table for anything other than food!

We had one of the little Ikea ones when DS was little. It cost around £5 but lasted years!
It's great for colouring, crafts etc & we used to pop it in the lounge at breakfast time so that he could eat breakfast/watch cartoons whilst we got ready for work.

The Ikea one is so worth it! Everyone I know pretty much has one in their house for toddlers

We had an ELC pink plastic table and 2 chairs for years. Probably til they were about 8! It wasnt pretty but useful for all sorts

I had an IKEA one for my DS donkeys years ago and kept one of the little chairs as a kitchen step stool for a long time after he'd outgrown it. I have (a B&M) one now for my granddaughter and she spends ages at it. Definitely not a waste of money.

Very useful but I viewed as more of a table for DC and sometimes little friends to use for snacks and lunches. We sometimes did crafting there too but also had a big floor mat for that. GPs had a blue plastic one which we eventually gave away. I sold the wooden one - Mothercare brand - and the chairs.

Yes! They are so useful, for craft, homework, colouring, painting, etc. We have one and it’s still used by my DD and she’s 8! We got the ikea plastic one with matching chairs (we got a baby blue colour). It’s not stylish but cleans up v well.

The 5 euro IKEA one is still here 14 years ago. It has gone from dining, art, Lego and moe hosts a record player 😜

Yes! Good for colouring, playdough, painting and when you have friends with small kids over you can sit the kids at the kids’ little table to eat and have more space for the adults. They’re not expensive and save your proper table getting covered in paint and bashed about.

Yes we had a little plastic table and chair.
I think they came from somewhere like Poundstretchers.
The chair was outgrown eventually but the table we had for a least a decade. It got used as a side table/coffee table many times.
You can get small fold up tables aimed at camping from place like Decathlon if you want one to not take up space.
Definitely a vital purchase.

Yes, my grandson loves his little wooden one

StrongandNorthern · 22/03/2024 19:43

One of the best things I ever bought - originally for my kids ... now using for grandchildren.
Buy one, and enjoy.

EarthbarsforMartians · 22/03/2024 19:44

Don’t get a fold up one. Your kids will climb on it at some point. You want it to be sturdy enough to cope

scrivette · 22/03/2024 19:50

Yes well worth it, DC are too big to eat at it now but they use it for crafts and a dumping ground for school bags.

Sorry to jump in on your thread but just wondering if anyone can help. I bought a little table and chair set off a local seller a good few years ago for my DD. It was an ikea one but they had a business that they bought them and then covered in whatever design you wanted, they added the kids name etc.. lovely idea. However now I want to use it for my DS and would love to cover it with dinosaurs or something like that so it's 'his'. How would I do this? They didn't use a sticker, but I'm not sure what?

Small table is essential. I had my children eat all their meals at this table. I highly recommend wooden or painted wood and buy 4 chairs. We occasionally did family meal but as it was mainly me and kids all meals at table. Also crafting tea-parties playing restaurant egg coloring anything messy or wet. Now pull it out for Dnieces. It will not be wasted money. Truly this is one of my top 3 parenting tips…get them their own table I actually think it’s safer for them

EarthbarsforMartians · 23/03/2024 07:31

Sand it? If you could peel off the original picture that would be quicker. But sanding will work as long as the table is wood.

crumpet · 23/03/2024 07:33

a kids table was great. We had one for years. And they loved having little snacks or even lunch when grown ups were at the big table.
