Timeless curtains

Dd 14 no longer wants her 10 year old unicorn curtains. I want to now get a pair that I never need to change or for at least 20 plus years - any recommendations for timeless curtains that won't look dated

What colour is your DD’s room and you could consider a roller blind or slatted blind in a neutral colour. I don’t really recommend slatted though as they’re a nightmare to keep dust free.

It's currently mauve she'd like to change this also but we haven't decided what we are going to go with yet.

Her room is south facing and in the summer it's incredibly hot, the curtains when drawn help to keep it cooler.

We have shutters at the front of the house and your right they are annoying to have to clean 🧼

Or something like this

If her room is currently mauve, I’d suggest whacking a white or shade of (almond or apple white) over it because there aren’t many neutral curtains other than white that would tone well with mauve I don’t think.

If you don’t want to change your curtains I’d definitely go for a plain curtain, not patterned - that way, you can always change bedding and walls easily to tone.

martinisforeveryone · 03/03/2024 21:02

What's the flooring like and are there any plans to change it?

Macey78 · 03/03/2024 21:05

@Verbena17 thank you for those suggestions - I'm liking the neutrals what do you think of they had a slight pattern to them ?

OP posts:
Macey78 · 03/03/2024 21:06

@martinisforeveryone the floor is standard original boards sanded down, that's never changing

I’m definitely not an interiors guru though 😂 - I would always go plain bedroom curtains to save myself stress but if you’re good with interior styling, check out stuff on Pinterest perhaps for some ideas if you fancy more interesting curtains.

Macey78 · 03/03/2024 21:15

@Verbena17 I'm not either, far from, that's why I need all the help I can get. I was relieved when she chose the curtains she did last time back when she was 4 saved me the hassle 🤪. Good idea to checkout Pinterest for some reason I never seem to use it for anything

If she’s a feminine style girl and is still desperate for some colour, how about something like this….so she still has pink but a very pale tone that will carry through into womanhood.

As you want them to last a very long time, a textured neutral with thermal and blackout linings would probably be best

I'd also go for pencil pleat header tape as that will minimise any light and heat leakage as opposed to slot top.

DD can choose any type of bedding, lightshade, lamp, picture frames or cushions etc and there's not a huge cost to swap around accessories in time.
