AVOID HILLARYS LIKE THE PLAGUE

Hoping to save others a load of stress. Absolute shambles from the get-go. Ordered two sets of shutters (after the consultant turned up more than two hours late, should have known then). Was told I'd have to wait 3 months, not ideal but went with it.

3 months later, the frames turned up but on one of them they had got their measurements wrong by 30cm, so only one set of shutters got fitted. Was told I would have to wait ANOTHER 3 MONTHS. Was then told it would be 5-6 weeks because they had approved it for air freight rather than sea (from China). Still annoying but more reasonable.

After 5 weeks of chasing, being told someone would contact me, complaining in writing (all with zero response from Hillarys), I was told that they're on the way, BUT NOT AIR FREIGHT. Because "nobody ever sent the air freight authorisation to China". Excellent. Hillarys, you have literally failed at every turn of this process.

Hillarys won't discuss "good will" until they have the goods, and I can't cancel the order. So despite having paid for these things in September and now going into March, I have neither half my money or half my order.

So I would urge you to AVOID HILLARYS AND GO LOCAL. I really wish I had.

I have used Hillary's in the past and they have been fine but that was not in the area I live now where they are absolutely appalling. Failed to turn up twice, never came back with the quote when they did turn up because the colour I chose had been discontinued and they never bothered to tell us.

Never had any issue with the except pricing. Each ‘rep’ is self employed so it’s not actually Hillary’s your issue is with, it’s the franchise.

Although the initial mistake was probably by the franchise bit, I assume the other things that have happened have been by a "head office" function. Really hard to tell though as you can't talk to anyone directly beyond the customer service line.

NEVER USE HILARY'S, I agree!!!

Five months ago I placed my order and still don't have my curtains. Awful experience for such an expensive place. My advisor fit my curtains and noticed they were faulty and ill fitting, not once, not twice but three times.

Unfortunately the ones I currently have hanging embarrassingly in my house are the worst of the three failed attempts by them.

Customer service are a disaster and are currently disputing any fault despite their advisor raising it to me and it clear by just looking at them! Awful experience and still unresolved after all the money I've spent. I would avoid using Hilary's. They accept more orders than they can cater for which is clearly resulting in poor quality curtains at extortionate prices. Take your money elsewhere. Once they have your money that's when they're done with you.

Avoid Hillarys!!!
Absolute bunch of cowboys
We've been in a battle with them for over 16 months.
Had to take up a claim with the small claims court.
So unprofessional, no customer service care at all!!
STRESS STRESS STRESS
SPEND YOUR MONEY WITH A COMPANY THAT CAN ACTUALLY MAKE BESPOKE CURTAINS!!!

HILARYS. -

An absolute waste of money for two sets of shutters that didn’t fit as was supposed to 🥲

Hillary’s would do nothing to help

This was over a period of months !!
Plus having to wait for the shutters to arrive

The designer would not pick up her phone when I tried to contact her on several occasions to discuss the matter
Couldn’t get anywhere with Hillary at all

Got to the stage where they said if we didn’t pay the total, they would be sending the bailiffs round

An absolute waste of money £££

Don’t touch them with a barge pole

Thatshymember · 27/05/2025 16:53

Avoid Hillary blinds they are just out there to get their money they don’t care about you.
the survey person got my order wrong and they won’t take any responsibility for it.
the fitter told me not to bother complaining that it won’t be replaced and true to his word after weeks of not having blinds on my window they called to say they want their money.
please avoid them.
i wish we went with our initial company but we didn’t due to the waiting time.
now we are stuck with shutters that does not meet our need.
i can’t emphasise enough avoid them avoid them.

Cuppa2sugars · 29/05/2025 03:39

We got our blinds from blinds2go and they were brilliant from ordering to receiving and fitting.

ive thought about Hillary’s but i tend to go with reviews.

springerb88 · 29/05/2025 09:14

We have just had curtains from Hillary's put up in two bedrooms and we're very pleased with them.

We went with an independent local company for the window shutters as the quote from Hillarys was so expensive and the local company has their shutters made in the same factory in China as Hillarys

maslinpan · 29/05/2025 09:17

The surveyor from Hillary's was extremely rude and unprofessional. The fitter did a brilliant job and was very friendly, hinting that everyone had problems with the surveyor. We are very happy with the blinds but I would never use them again.

YES I agree. Honestly had the rudest salesman leave me an horrible message - it was my fault. I booked a home visit and then tried to cancel on the morning because I wasn't well and had a 4 week old baby. He ranted and went on. I know it was really annoying for him, but professionalism should be maintained.

Similar here. Moved from Victorian terrace to almost identical one in Somerset - wanted the same wooden Venetians I’d had in London. Hillary’s salesman said they were unsuitable for our windows and told me I should have those hideous vertical fabric ones like you get in doctor’s surgeries, Got very patronising and chippy with me when I refused and I indeed up asking him to leave. Rang Hillary’s to complain and they had zero interest. In laws also had shit experience with them.

cinnamongirl123 · 29/05/2025 09:59

We have used Hillarys a few times, and have been happy with them - one time they got the spec wrong but they sorted it with no further problems, it just took a while for the new ones to arrive. The end product is lovely.

myfitbitisfucked · 29/05/2025 09:59

I used them several years ago for a Roman blind for a large feature window and they completely fucked the measurements up. The fitter arrived with a blind with frayed edges and there was at least a 2 com halo of light around d the entire blind as well the blind being too short by about an inch even at full drop. I refused to let them leave it there. The rep became extremely defensive and so I had to call their head office and demand a repeat service with a different rep / fitter. It took about two weeks for them to agree to this which given the state of the product that had been despatched was quite astonishing. In addition to this it was me who had to suggest some form of financial compensation that seemed inconceivable to them. The original blind had cost £260. Have never and would never commission their services again that’s for certain!

We had Hillary's.
Turned up on time ✅
Delivered and installed within 2 weeks ✅
They look lovely ✅
They work as they should (electric) ✅

Not all Hillary's are the same!

Which is fine but no good for folk thinking standards are the same. Which they would appear to be according to their relentless advertising campaigns.

spoonbillstretford · 29/05/2025 10:38

Tuiss/Blinds2Go are great.

Seawolves · 29/05/2025 10:43

Blinds2Go were absolutely awful when I ordered from them. They stuffed up most of my order, right sizes submitted but wrong sizes delivered, handle cut outs either on the wrong side or missed completely, completely wrong colour roller blind delivered and the delivery came in dribs and drabs. Others rate them but I would never use them again. I ended up going with a small, local company who were fab.

Els1e · 29/05/2025 10:53

I agree. I used Thomas Sanderson, not realising they are part of Hillarys. Salesman was fine. Fitter measured incorrectly. Missed a total of 7 appointments which had to be rearranged. Tried to fit the blinds which he couldn't cos they were the wrong size. Blamed to way we had stacked them. Took numerous calls to customer services to sort out. Eventually we got a fitter who knew what he was doing, who re measured, ordered correct size and took about an hour to fit them. Shame we were 8 months down the line. I accept mistake can be made but own it and put it right.

Snippit · 29/05/2025 11:02

I had exactly the same comment from a double glazing pleb 🤬cheeky shit. I sort most things out in our house, I don’t require my husband’s permission, gawd, we’re not little girls that need to check with daddy 🙄

crumpet · 29/05/2025 11:20

I do understand a part of the “your husband” point of view - many couples will jointly agree a large household expenditure, so I get that the salesperson would prefer to have both people together at the same time - but equally the sales people should gracefully live with the fact that a decision may be taken later if both people aren’t there at the same time!

my parent have used Hillary’s a few times and seem very happy with them - it probably varies depending on the local area
