Looking to get a three seater clic clac type futon sofa bed for the spare room.
are the futon company ones any good? I’m eyeing one in the sale for £500…

Yes but you can get a futon cheaply or free second hand.
I have one in the 'guest bedroom' with a regular mattress on it as it's never folded into a sofa.
The only downside is that as a bed it's quite low, which can be an issue for older guests.

I have one in the living room as a sofa. and I'm told is not as comfortable as a regular sofa. I find it OK.

Both my futons were from freecycle.

One thing to consider is getting a cover for it. I got a new one from a charity shop for £10.

I have a futon bed and two sofas from them and really like them. I'm planning to replace the mattress of the bed but the delivery charge they quoted me means it would almost double the price of it. I'm in rural Scotland, delivery often is a lot more expensive but £349 for the delivery of a double mattress is just a bit too much. I was living closer to the Edinburgh shop when I first bought the bed/sofas. I do think the quality is good though.
