Furniture 123 vs Dusk vs Dunelm etc for Sofas

Furnishing a whole house so need to keep a careful eye on the budget. Need a couple of sofas. Really like the traditional low armed style such as the Beatrice range in Dunelm. There are quite a few companies such as those listed above and places like Daals, Sofa Sofa etc that do similar for quite cheap prices with quite mixed reviews.

Anyone got any personal experience with sofas from any of these places? Interested in how comfy they area and how long they last.

i quite like a squishy sofa but DH has a bad back so needs a bit more support.

Not sure if too expensive but we had a sofa from M and S and it was fantastic quality and really comfy.. It lasted forever too.

Dusk sofas are rubbish! I bought a couple earlier this year and sold them on after a fortnight! I replaced them with Next

Posted this on Property too as hadn’t had replies here, someone there was raving about Dusk! Why didn’t you like it? Just felt cheap or wasn’t for you?

the M&S ones are lovely but even in the discounted ex display section at our local store they’re still well over £1k per sofa which I don’t really want to spend. We also have a local next clearance shop which gets great bargains but you have to be super lucky to be there at the right time to actually be able to buy something.

My expe4rience for couches across the yesars...

SCS was an unmitigated disaster, would never ever recommend them. Unbelievably low build quality. "Quality Guarantee" with more loopholes than a fishing net.

M&S sofas lasted very well indeed, as did IKEA.

Sofa Workshop (are they still going?) was the most expensive and far and away the best quality, lasted for decades.

We’ve had a couple of ikea sofas for about 8 years now which we’ve moved into other rooms where they’re still going strong.
the dusk ones felt really shoddily made, the seat cushions form front to back were really shallow-we’re not massively tall, I’m 5’7 and dh and ds around 6’ but you never felt you were doing anything other than perching on them.
If you have a Next furniture store near you and aren’t desperate they usually do really good deals on ex display

It can be worth looking at furniture outlets.

We got our M&S suite from one (now shut, sadly) - if orders have been made and cancelled or if the item is returned for refund, they sell them on. Some places have Next, M&S and John Lewis furniture in stock. You have to do a lot of looking and decide quickly, because they are all one offs rather than a stock of many of the same things, but it can save a lot of money.

SunnyUpNorth · 05/02/2024 14:25

We do have a next outlet but it’s so hard to find anything in there. They have nice stuff for great prices but it’s always already sold waiting for collection. I think you’d have to camp out there! I know of an M&S one too but it’s quite far away and last time I was passing they only had one sofa set in stock, so it’s a long way to go on the off chance. I’ve been scouring eBay for ex-display of good brands but I have a specific style in mind that I’d like and they don’t come
up much.

i did sit on a couple in Dunelm that I really liked but I don’t thing they get great reviews for longevity.

I’ll keep searching!

We had THE WORST experience buying from Daals ! Delivery was delayed and our dressing table was delivered In unacceptable conditions (broken packaging, pieces scattered all over, dirty!) We were told by customer service to accept the delivery as that is the policy of Daals - and that they will deal with all the problems later! 25 emails later I have not received the replacement for chipped drawer! Extremely frustrating dealing with useless members of customer service! No respect for our money and time! When I asked for manager’s name and email address I was told that they don’t have one! It’s basically a bunch of time-wasters that will torture you with contradicting emails without solution to the problem. Avoid dealings with Daals!! The worst company we have ever come across!!
