Carpet recommendations for cats?

We have carpet on our stairs and landing which is pretty wrecked as we have 2 cats. Also it’s your standard grey which I’ve never liked.

Not our forever home but we’re planning on being here at least another 3 years and also want to replace anything that’s tired.

Can anyone recommended a particular type or style of carpet which will withstand cat claws?

Tricky. I went for a very flat flatweave because the cat couldn’t get her claws into it. She hasn’t clawed it…. But it’s slippery and hasn’t worn well so I can’t recommend.

Following as we may need to replace ours too.

You might get more responses of you put this in the Litter Tray section.

As for carpet, a flat tight weave will help. My sister has fostered cats for years and these lasted the best. Though she gave up on carpets in the end, especially if you have cats that hate closed doors (i.e. most of them!) I'd say few carpets can withstand a determined kitty clawing it!

I have hard floors with rugs and one rug with the much tighter weave is surviving much better than the others and has a lot less obvious pulls on it. . They are fairly inexpensive (Dunelm) and therefore replaceable when they get too tatty.

I'd go for hard flooring if I were you, there are much nicer vinyl plank options these days not just wood, though I have lacquered engineered oak which is fairly hard wearing. Alternatively a hard tight weave carpet with no big loops for claws to catch on - jute or hessian or a good quality wool mix - and then put rugs on the landing as well (or you can get an offcut in the same carpet bound/edged as a rug), For the stairs you can do runners to protect them.

We are not putting carpets in until our elderly cat passes away!
