Are feature walls out of fashion?

Planning to redecorate our lounge and have seen a great paint and wallpaper combination, but are feature walls not cool these days? Three walls would be painted, and the wall with fireplace would have the wallpaper. Any thoughts?

In part yes.
Painted feature wall is out.
Colour drenching is in, mural walls are in.

Who cares?
That's my thought.

I think so. But do people really decorate often enough to take notice of trends? You could have this decoration for years, so even if you really cared about what was in, whatever you pick could be out of fashion soon anyway.

Unless you're planning on selling soon, decorate it how you like.

I think wallpaper on a wall with a feature like a fireplace sounds nice. Sometimes a specific wallpaper can be really nice, but a bit much for a whole room.

I think the older style where it's 3 pale walls and a bold feature wall is seen as more old fashioned. The wallpaper I see on instagrams these days is often paired with a very similar coloured paint. So a if the background of the wallpaper is dark green the three walls are more likely to be dark green than pale green.

@cristokitty Yes, I agree. It would be a dark blue paint (Hicks blue) with the Carlton House Blue Plume paper - shown at the bottom of this page www.littlegreene.com/hicks-blue

Does it matter? Unless you're planning to sell within the next year or so I'd do whatever works for you!

I had the same dilemma in my old house and papered the wall opposite the wall with the fireplace (on the advice of an interior designer) and it worked perfectly. Not too much wallpaper but evaded the wallpaper on fireplace wall cliche.

I don't think there were ever 'in'.

I've just papered bold dark paper in a white room expecting it to look naff and to need to paint the other 3 walls dark to match but it actually looks great as it is - saved us a massive job too :)
