Shaker kitchen with lighter coloured wall units and a dark island - is this timeless? Thanks.

I think two toned units will date very quickly but might not be as bad if its just the island that's a different colour, rather than wall units in one colour and base units in another.

Yes just mean the island, all wall and base units will be the same colour. Thanks!

I think it looks great, and can be pretty timeless, as long as its a classic colour.

It's lovely. I think it will date quickly so if I were choosing this I'd have it in a wood that could be painted when I got sick of it

It's really practical for a very small kitchen, but they're not fashionable anyway so won't date

I think it's a passing fad, like many other things. We recently bought a newish house with one, and it looks awful. Tempted to paint it as we can't justify the cost of replacing.

I think it's hard to pull off - like clashing prints and patterns you need to be really good at design to get it right - but if you do it can look brilliant.

This is what we have. I like it, it hasn’t dated in 5 years IMO but it did take a long time and a LOT of samples to get two colours that went well together and where I really liked both colours.

If I did it again I think I’d use one of those companies that does their colours in 4 different depths (like Lick or Paint & Paper Library) and choose the lightest and darkest.

Also just to warn you, the island gets chipped most and dark paint shows up chips worse than light. If you want bombproof then wooden (or even metal covered) on the island would be more hard wearing and then painted on the wall run.

I love mine but I've had it nearly 10 years now so I'd say it must be nearing the end of its popularity.

I’ve seen a couple of kitchens like this in houses I’m looking at on RM. It’s put me off viewing because I don’t want the hassle/expense of a new kitchen so soon after moving in. I don’t think they look good at all tbh.
