Considering getting a red front door, would you consider this a bit dated? I do love it but just don't want it to feel outdated at the same time!

Red looks lovely with red geraniums in summer, and a Xmas wreath at Xmas.

Tiddlesem · 18/01/2024 21:40

Stuck between red or dark grey! Agree about winter time and the wreaths. Very warm and inviting but torn between a more modern look or classic

Go for what you like as you will be living with it . Also trends / fads come and go.

SwedishEdith · 18/01/2024 21:41

Red is great door colour. So many dull doors around at the moment.

DustyLee123 · 18/01/2024 21:42

I think grey is over now, colour is coming back.

Tiddlesem · 18/01/2024 21:42

I'm torn as I like both and struggling to decide!

Def red over dark grey for me! Red is uplifting and will perk you up on arrival home. Grey is miserable and I’m glad we’re seeing the end of it.

Cornishclio · 18/01/2024 21:44

Ours is red. We love it. It makes the house look so cheerful.

Jeffjefftyjeff · 18/01/2024 21:44

We downloaded a thing where we could upload a photo of our house then try it with lots of different types/ colour of doors. I guess it was probably from a door supplier but can’t remember exactly. Really helped make our mind up. And yes, we went with red!

I like them in winter on the right style house. Dislike them in summer. Tricky
one. I think they look dated & daft on new builds.

I have a mid-dark red door. I like it.

WolfFoxHare · 18/01/2024 21:46

If you like red doors, get one ffs! I cannot fathom caring about whether your door colour is dated. Why on earth would you get a colour you like less? Whatever is ‘on trend’ now will be dated before you next replace your door so just get whatever you like best.

PheobeBebe · 18/01/2024 21:46

Red for me, I adore colour. Unfortunately red doesn't go with our brick colour or I would have got the same

LaughingAtClowns · 18/01/2024 21:52

My front door is red - the only one on my street of 58 houses. Who cares if it ever looks "dated"??

Tiddlesem · 18/01/2024 21:54

@WolfFoxHare I agree with you about going with what you like and trends coming and going. I like both just struggling to decide really.

We’ve got a red upvc/composite door - love it
but
because we got sun on it - it has faded over the 10 years we’ve had it and I’ve had to repaint it.
personally , if I could do it now, I’d go for the sage green colour instead- less fading but still looks different 😊

New2024 · 18/01/2024 22:02

A strong colour over a more neutral one any day. We have a red door, not pillarbox red but quite a strong colour. Our cottage is old. Some people with similar properties locally have black doors, I’ve also seen yellow and white. I’m not really a fan of white doors as they are - like grey and pale green - a bit less of a statement.

Whatwouldnanado · 18/01/2024 22:05

Go for red. Looks great all year round and so cheerful for passers by. Classic too, won’t date at all.

ArchetypalBusyMum · 18/01/2024 22:06

If you're worried about it being dated dark grey is the one to avoid as that's a real tail end of a massive fad now.
A red door is ace.

blackpanth · 18/01/2024 22:06

Definitely go for red

GetWhatYouWant · 18/01/2024 22:12

I'd go for red, it's classic. My new neighbours have just got a new door, dark grey with a long brushed chrome handle, they presumably like it but to me it's come straight from 2019, looks very dated to me. You can't pin red down to a specific time so will never look dated.

clickifyouwanna · 18/01/2024 22:14

I think it depends on the colour of your brick - red can look good on the right house but if you have red brick I’d say you have to choose your shade wisely or go for something else. The only colour I dislike is white - it’s just so bland.
