Painting kitchen tiles and cupboards - advice

Hello
So my kitchen is very dated. We had plans to get a new kitchen this year however my partner has decided he now wants to leave (that's a complete different story!) so a kitchen upgrade is no longer affordable. I could make it look a lot better by painting the tiles and cupboards cream and adding new handles but have no experience of this. Can anyone share their experience of painting their kitchen units and tiles please? What paints are the best to use for the long term?
Thanks 😊

I've never seen painted tiles look good.

Painting the cupboards will depend on what they are made of. A (more expensive, but cheaper than a new kitchen) possibility is to get the wrapped if paint isn't suitable.

Definitely go for Rust o Leum cupboard paint. It’s amazing easy to use and the results are fantastic. You won’t be sorry I’ve also used their wall paint as well and their range is fantastic!

Can you get a company in? I had mine resprayed and it wasn't expensive but the finish looks extremely professional.

I painted my doors in white gloss and put tile stickers over the old tiles

@LuluMorris no unfortunately money is extremely tight so me painting them myself is the only option

@WashedUpHasBeen nice to hear from someone who has done this. Was it a nightmare? Did you have to rub all the doors down before painting?

Unfortunately the previous occupant had painted the doors a bloody dark grey, so I had to do about 3 coats of Dulux brilliant white, I did not sand them down really, just gave them a quick wipe😁

The paint cost about £10 and the tile stickers from Amazon about £20

If you really must paint the tiles, buy the absolute best tile paint you can. It does look awful usually and the paint peels, it's really hard to clean as you cant scrub them too much. If you really want to do it, vinyl tile stickers are slightly more robust, at least you can replace them easily.
