Need colour suggestions for Living room

Just had the living room freshly replastered. I really want to avoid painting the whole thing white as while that feels like an easy option, it also feels like a wasted opportunity.
Im hoping to get this sofa in green velvet or might go dark or navy blue. I also have these William Morris curtains from ceiling to floor in green bough pattern in a small bay window. It’s an Edwardian terraced house - if that helps !
I love green and have f & B Mizzle in the kitchen ..but wondering if green walls are too much with green sofa and curtains. I have floorboards so no carpet colours to consider.
All ideas and suggestions welcome. Need some mn inspo!

Green fan here! Love the sofa and the curtains.

How about a warmer white, maybe Wimborne, or Lime White if you want green undertones.

I'd stay neutral (have done the stronger colours and have decided I prefer warm pale ones).

Then you can add a colour if you want a change, with cushions and throws.. just about anything goes with green.

I have a dark green velvet sofa and F&B Stiffkey blue on the walls, it looks fab. Also would work with your curtains.

Gribbit987 · 16/01/2024 10:29

I’d get a greige warm neutral. Both your greens are yellow toned and I would embrace that and the background of your curtains.

It depends on the level of light in your house but something along the lines of farrow and ball drop cloth or shaded white. These 2 are also complementary tones to mizzle so make sense in terms of cohesive colour palette.

Wimborne white is very light I use it on ceilings. It is very much a clotted cream off white which some people love but isn’t really a colour.

I adore that sofa.

You might hate this, but I've seen a lot of pink walls with dark green sofas lately. Modern, grown up pinks like F&B setting plaster and Templeton Pink. Dulux's colour of the year was Sweet Embrace which despite the awful name looks quite livable. Dulux Nutmeg white is a neutral with a very subtle pinkish hue.

I've seen advice to thing of green almost as a neutral. Imagine a garden where the background is all different shades of green. Anything goes - there are no flower colours that don't work with green.

A friend of mine has a green living room. It is beautiful. But iirc, with similar curtains and a green velvet sofa, her walls are actually more of a sort of pale yellowish green colour, something like Dulux Wild Wonder. Much as I love sage-y greens, I think a yellower one might stop the room from looking too matchy.

Thank you @Houseplanter - these are great suggestions and like the idea of playing it safe . I like the lime white especially.

@florriegirl ooh interesting though am not sure I’m brave enough - I’ve got two alcoves of a metre each ? Would painting those in stiffkey add anything 🧐

Thanks @Gribbit987 I’ll look those colours up. Plenty of Sun in the morning and less in afternoon.
fairly bright!

@TreeStone thank you , that’s a reassuring way to look at greens. I did wonder about getting the sofa in navy to lessen the green but then I do just want a green sofa.
I do like pink and green and liked Middleton pink in my old house - in the kitchen with pale green worktops.
will need to see if the pinks work with the curtains..

We have Tailors Tack from.f n b in our dining room, next to Beverly (green). Tailors Tack is a pretty, warm, pale pink. Not sickly, just a hint. Might work nicely with your greens.

MissAtomicBomb1 · 16/01/2024 20:01

We've just painted ours in Little Greene Ambleside. It's has bluish undertones. We have grey sofas, wooden floorboards & hoping to add some William Morris cushions when it's finished.

I love oatmeal with forest green - so soothing and classy. I'd go for a paler wall as opposed to green. The tone will come down to your room and the way light bounces around it, you can't beat a few testers and live with them for a while to see how you feel morning, and evening. sunny and dull. Even in the same house with the same orientation paint looks different in different rooms.

CrispsnDips · 18/01/2024 08:45

Love the sofa and curtains.

I’m also a fan of orange/rust so would probably add rust coloured cushions/throws. Maybe an orange patterned lampshade here and there.

I have a velvet olive green sofa and navy blue armchair but realised that I needed some warm colours to cosy it all up so have added rust/orange and mustard yellow. A friend suggested a fuchsia pink as well but I’m not sure 😆

MrsRachelDanvers · 18/01/2024 19:58

Try Stone 3 or 4 by Paint and Paper Library. A neutral with an olive undertone. It’s a very unifying colour.

MotherOfDragon20 · 24/01/2024 14:45

We have a green velvet sofa and have F&B school house white. It’s a lovely colour and really suits the green.

Abcdefg22220 · 24/01/2024 15:59

designers guild - new mauve
i have it (and also a green velvet sofa) and LOVE it, very fresh and bright

ProbablyUnreasonably · 27/01/2024 03:37

A sort of dusky pink and green looks very elegant with green. If you wanted colour I’d go for something like this.

Paint the walls three quarters green on the bottom and a quarter white up the top - best of both worlds!

DayIntarnishedarmour · 15/06/2024 23:55

Do you want grey wall ideas or is it already grey and you want other colour ideas to go with grey sofa? Wasn’t quite sure. Farrow & Ball has some great grey-y green paint shades. I get ideas from there and then get it colour matched in Dulux or other cheaper brands. French grey, green smoke, elephants breath, card room green - could all be worth checking out. If you search for say Farrow&Ball French grey living room ideas etc, you can see it in rooms.
