Colour of exterior woodwork

We have some bits of outdoor woodwork that come down to the floor, so they often get splashed by the rain bouncing up off the ground. This makes me think painting the woodwork white or cream is A Bad Idea. It's currently stained wood.

Any ideas round this? I don't think I'm up for black, or the ubiquitous battleship grey. The house is red brick.
