New colour for the living room

We've ordered two new sofas and a chair for our living room, we are going to paint it too as it's long overdue. Room is long and narrow (ish), not super thin but not a wide room either. Sofas sit in the middle on either wall facing each other and rug in between. Space for side tables and we have a big sideboard we are selling. Big window one end and patio doors the other.

We both think grey on the walls but how grey? Lots of our walls are very dark so I'd like to not go too dark maybe this time. Wooden floor and SW facing garden: thanks

I’d go for a neutral like an off white or beigey white or a greige.
There’s a concept in interior design of the 60, 30, 10 % with colours. So 60% of the room would be a colour, as in walls and ceiling etc, 30% would be things like sofa, curtains, or an accent wall, and 10% would be accent colours, maybe within a rug, cushions, lampshade etc.
So for your room the teal sofas would be your 30% , then ochre would be 10%.
Obviously you don’t have to stick to these things or can make it like 50, 30, 20% etc. But I’d say with teal sofas and an ochre chair that a more off white colour would work better than a grey, as grey can be a bit of a cold colour. It’ll make the room light and airy and with the warm ochre and teal.

Use a paint app that allows you to take a photo of your room with the furniture in it and preview the paint colours. My dad used one recently for decorating his home and it was hugely helpful- avoided some v expensive mistakes and he ended up with some really fabulous bold choices rather than playing it safe.

There are.some ideas, mostly grey, on Pinterest. I like these more pale beige tones though, a bit more subtle and unexpected than grey. Sounds gorgeous, whatever you go for.

Ps - I find 'teal' one of those colours that is really hard to imagine as everyone has a different interpretation of it.

Personally I’d go bold in your position - you have chosen super colourful sofas so why so neutral on the walls? How about a VERY dark teal, or aubergine? Or a warm terracotta. Depending on what the room is like, what colour your rug and cushions are, etc, etc!

E.g Hague blue (teal) or pelt (aubergine), or Entrance Room Pink or Faded terracotta (both terracotta) (all F&B).

Thank you, much appreciated. Finally got some testers and think we're going with Farrow&Ball Pigeon. It's a grey in some light, slightly green in others. Goes well with the floor and hopefully new white woodwork will stop it looking too dark 🙏 This is the sofa (two, one on each wall opposite each other) and the chair.
