How to divide a room?

I need to divide a room for my children but how is best to do this? I’ve heard of people using curtains but how do I find a pole long enough to go across the room? Room dividers won’t work as they will probably knock them down and I don’t want to use kallax units. I’m also not handy enough to build anything. Has anyone managed to divide a room using curtains?

I haven't done this, but I imagine you'd need curtain track across the ceiling, rather than a wall to wall pole, depending on room size.

I may need this for my kids in future.

What about a tension rod used for a shower curtain?

What about a shower rail, they do tension ones that just push against the wall to hold them up and they may be long enough

IKEA do metal curtain track that sounds like it might do the job for you.

You can join multiple lengths of it so that it becomes whatever length you need and you can cut it to size too.

It's very easy to attach to the ceiling to with very limited DIY skills.
They also do very long voiles & curtains that should reach the floor too.

Dunelm do large curtain tracks that you could do a full length down attached to the ceiling - you can add on as much and trim as you need with limited dig skills. We needed floor to ceiling length curtains and ikea was the only place we found suitable without going custom made

What shape is the room, and where is the window in relation to the door?

I nearly bought a 2 bed apt when my kids were younger. I really thought about how I could make it work and give them both privacy ....but also, light

curtain track on ceiling.

a freestanding shelf like this is also a good option

I used a tension shower curtain rail from Amazon, was about £30 and it's solid
