Light colours in a period bedroom...

Looking for some decoration inspiration here. I'm usually good with this sort of thing, but my bedroom - which needs fully redecorating, carpets, walls, woodwork, everything- has me stumped. Our property is Victorian, although the master bedroom is in a dormer added in 70s. Still has a period sort of feel though, not out of place with the house. We have sloped ceilings, a large North facing window and 2 south facing skylights. I want to go for a period, traditional colour scheme, but as the room gets so much natural daylight I want to keep a nice, light feel too. I suspect the previous owners had the same idea but the result is everything is beige, which I hate. Please hit me with ideas and photos!

Wallpaper? A white background paper with colourful botanicals/florals/geometries, according to personal taste.

That would definitely work on one wall - like a feature wall behind the bed. Not sure how you'd match the paint colour on the other walls. Perhaps a pale version of one of the colours in the paper.

Some paper companies offer paint suggestions, like F&B, Little Green, Warner House, Lick. But if you just pick up a couple of colour charts from Brewers or order online, you'll find something that picks up a colour from the print that you'll like.

Advice on period colour schemes ; Little Greene Portland Stone or Blush

Atelier Ellis has interesting colours. Not so authentic but I’d love to paint a bedroom with Faded Blossom.

Start with a pale clove pink and work your way down or up the colour chart.

We have a grey bathroom but with squarish Edwardianesque fittings, ( blame my DH on the grey)(still I got to choose the kitchen 😂) and the very pale clove pink we have works, the bathroom has two windows so that helps.

The house has an East West orientation, sun first thing in the morning on the patio, stays there and then sets across the road and the last rays are still on the patio.

Eeek that photo has painted floorboards 😩

So, when you say a dormer do you mean a loft extension?

Ours is a light peachy colour, we have Victorian pitch pine blanket box, 1970s Heals wicker props basket, mid century lamps.

Some kind of faux pas @Wolvesart ?🤔

Painting floorboards is not a thing. Especially not white. Stained and buffed, yes but never painted.

I was questioning your reaction to painted floorboards…

dotdotdotdash · 26/11/2023 23:31

Oh I see… never painted!

Good to know @emmyren4

I honestly don't know. It was an old public building converted in the 70s. The bedroom has a dormer window one side, and skylights in sloped roof on the other.
