I have a north facing living room with a feature brick inglenook fireplace (needs to stay), walls painted in Dimity. Can anyone suggest style or colours for new furniture /accessories. I feel it should be a farmhouse style but that's at odds with neutral Swedish rest of house. Def needs some colour . Thank u

Red and cream? If it’s north facing and because the tone of the brick is warm I’d go for warmer undertones in whatever colour you decide. A modern cream leather chesterfield would look lovely in there and lighten up the room although it’s a pricey option. The use of mirrors may help too to increase the light

I'd swap the 2 seater for an arm chair. Rug. Cushions. Art on the wall. Bookshelves. You need a big plant or two as well. I have an inglenook and we have a large dried flower garland over the top of it. It's a lovely room, just needs some tlc!

The fireplace looks enormous for the size/height of room. Might it be possible to paint it to make it seem less overwhelming.

Thanks all for your suggestions, I am leaning towards neutral tones with red/terracotta accents.

I'd have the fireplace plastered and paint it in a neutral colour, the same colour as the room is going to be painted. I'd lime the wooden top too.

Soft blues go nicely with red brick. If you like a Scandi/Country theme. A blue-grey for the walls. An armchair and a sofa, don't choose the same style and colour. Maybe a soft blue, or white/blue striped sofa and pink/red/terracotta chair. A rug with blue and red hues to pull it together.
