Help me find the right brown paint

This is a snippet of my Pinterest board for my livingroom. We moved in just over 2 years ago and the decor was very dated so sort of just did everything neutral to freshen it up but now fancy something a bit more cosy. It's a decent sized room and has double doors into the dining room that are always left open, so I think it could handle some darker colours. I'm thinking of doing the TV wall and opposite wall that the couch is on brown with the rest of the room in Dulux Timeless. My sofas are light beige. I'm planning on having olive green curtains and cushions.

I do like the brown shades in the pics I've saved on Pinterest but unfortunately it doesn't say what they are plus online pics don't always show the true colour. I know brown can be a tricky colour to get right so just thought I'd ask if anyone has brown walls and what paint did you use?

I love Edward Bulmer Paints and only use them for plaster. Their London Brown is gorgeous.

Look at Dulux spinning wheel. Brown/black/green colour but looks brown in our house. Lovely dark colour

Oooh. That is lovely. Looks lovely and rich whilst not being too dark. Thank you.

Gorgeous colour but probably a bit too dark for what I'm looking for.

Maybe F&B mouse's back?

I love this one I used it in a previous house, it’s a suede paint, and the brown is darker than it looks in the image but gives a lovely suede effect.

Oh this looks lovely! Exactly what I'm looking for. Thank you.

I've been coveting the new Little Green collection -
How about Chocolate Colour or Ganache?

Ooh the chocolate is gorgeous but maybe a little too dark. Ganache is maybe a bit too reddy as I'm planning on olive green curtains.

I painted a north facing dining room in Little Greene Chocolate (on the wainscoting/panelling) and LG Castell Pink (which is actually a warm caramel shade). I used LG China Clay on the ceiling down to the picture rail and another, slightly deeper, pink called Stony Plaster (Atelier Ellis) on the picture rail itself. It looks the tits, if I say so myself, and goes well with the existing sage/olive green carpet. Little Greene is lovely paint to work with.

helly29 · 24/11/2023 20:30

@BigSkies2022 that sounds bloody amazing, do you have a picture?

@Laurdo yes ganache maybe too red with olive greene. Let us know what you settle on!

BigSkies2022 · 24/11/2023 20:58

@helly29 * *I'm not too clever with phone to laptop, but I can have a go in daylight.

OP - the Mochi in that same range of Little Greene's 'chocolate puddings' colours is a bit deeper than the Castell Pink, but is very much first cousin to it. It does come out very nicely, looks good with pinks and greens and brass and bronze and all kinds of wood. It's a neutral, but with a good strong personality of its own, IYSWIM.

You’ll regret that when it’s summer

Doubt it. My living room is Dulux Heritage Tudor Brown and has been for five years. Have not ever regretted it, and it’s darker than what OP is looking for.

OP I also recommend Little Greene paint if you can find a shade that suits, it’s by far the nicest and easiest paint I’ve worked with.

Laurdo · 24/11/2023 21:53

Thanks everyone. Some lovely suggestions. Definitely going to have a look at the Little Greene range and I quite like the look of the crown suede one.

Now I just need to patiently wait for my husband to get round to building the TV wall out. He's the master of unfinished jobs so stay tuned for an update in 2029! 🤣

Going to try and convince him to do it before Xmas but I might be pushing it.

Why: I was the one with the suede paint and it was lovely how it caught the light.

Just had a look on the little Greene website and quite like Attic 11. Also completely in love with Jewel beetle now! Might have to have that in the dining room!

Jewel Beetle is stunning, I have that in our kitchen diner.

HappySammy · 25/11/2023 09:04

Oh I love Jewel beetle. I went with Puck instead which is a very bold green but I kept swaying towards jewel beetle.

Agree with a PP that the little greene paints are a joy to work with. I used to use Dulux or Crown but the LG paint took fewer coats. My DH said it was a lot easier to cut in on the corners too. (I'm too clumsy for cutting in myself). He didn't bother with masking tape and got around the walls even faster than I did with my roller.

This is good to know. I've never used it before and I prefer to cut in without masking tape too so looking forward to working with it.

Jewel Beetle makes me want to find something to paint right away. Am fantasising about a future kitchen in which it features.
