Backslash and tiles

This is an old picture from when we first did the kitchen, we added a stainless steel splash back just behind the cooker (and shelves to the left)

12 years later I'm sick of cleaning it and it never actually looking clean!! also the lack of splashback on the rest of the wall is an issue!

So i would like to add splash back/ tiles along the entire wall.

How far up would you take the tiles?

And would large format tiles look OK? I'm not a fan of the metro style that's fashionable at the mo.

I intend to paint walls a softer green and add a plate rack to the left

I think big tiles look weird
what about fishscale or a herringbone design?

you could also just get clear glass once repainted? Or you can do a cool print or image.

we have quartz splashbacks and it’s a breeze to keep clean
