Is LVT good?

Hello,

I've just purchased my first home and I'm looking at replacing all the floor, currently, there is old carpet down and with having 2 kids and a dog I don't think it's very practical.

I've been told about LVT which is supposed to be good all round for young families but don't know much about this new product Did a quick google search and this came up https://flooringking.co.uk/lvt-flooring/polyflor-lvt/camaro/ - does anyone have any experience with this product? It's reasonably priced and appear a lot in google search I did.

Is LVT similar to laminate flooring? I'll be looking at laying it myself to save costs and only ever laid laminate before.

If anyone has any recommendations for LVT or other products it'll be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance.

I’m looking at LVT as well having previously opted for and fitted laminate myself upstairs. The new floor will run all through the downstairs including the kitchen so I need something that is waterproof.

The problem with the product you’ve linked to is that it’s glue down which apparently must only be done by a professional and the fitting can cost as much as, it more than, the flooring itself.

For this reason, I’m going for click fit lvt which can be done by a DIYer. I’m in the process of ordering loads of samples at the moment - it’s surprising how much they vary from the screen pics so I’d recommend doing that too.

We have Polyflor Camaro supplied and fitted by a professional and it’s fantastic. Looks great, no wear on it at all despite living in a busy house with two dogs. Very forgiving with dirt and easy to hoover and mop- can’t use steam mop on it tho. Would highly recommend!

oh and it’s nothing like laminate. It’s luxury vinyl tiles so much thinner than laminate and won’t warp like laminate does if it gets wet

We have Moduleo LVT in our lounge and I really like it. It looks far better than laminate, and is waterproof so won't warp if it gets wet.

We got the glue down one as I think it was more suitable for with underfloor heating.

One thing to look out for is whether the texturing matches the pattern on the strips or doesn't match. The more expensive stuff will have the pattern matching the texture and makes it look a lot more like wood. We also chose planks with a bevelled edge as it looks a lot more like real wood.

I've got Polyflor Camaro, glue down.
There is a lot of prep work needed to make sure that the subfloor is absolutely level (mine had ply laid then a self leveling screed applied) before the LVT can be fitted.

madamegazelle1 · 10/11/2023 23:29

We had a self levelling screed put down with ours- you need a good base for it to be laid on

Chasingsquirrels · 11/11/2023 07:53

I do steam mop mine as well.

Nerdymummy · 11/11/2023 07:55

We have it, though we got the one you don’t glue down from carpet right. It looks lovely and doesn’t feel as cold as laminate. We had someone put it down for us. It’s thinner than laminate but the stuff we had was laid very much like you would laminate

Thanks for all the insightful information, with me being so clumsy and the Camaro I linked being glue down, I'd end up glueing myself to the floor.

I've went back through the products on flooringking website and in the same brand (polyflor) and there's a product called rigid core which is lvt click but at £29.99m2, the amount I need would put a big dent in the budget but I did see another brand that looks similar for cheaper https://flooringking.co.uk/lvt-flooring/filters/brand/royal/ - at this price I'd be comfortable with. It says it has built-in underlay which I assume I don't need any additional underlay, or?

Please can you let me know which Moduleo LVT you went with please as I am trying to decide now. Looking at the Roots range.

I have LVT throughout my whole basement (about 1200 sq feet). It wasn’t cheap, as previously mentioned, installation was needed.

It’s very easy to keep and has held up very well. Our basement has had water issues (full on flooding, not uncommon where I live) and it didn’t budge.

I have hardwood on my main floor though and wouldn’t want LVT in that part of my house.
