Venetian blinds twist pole or cord?

Need to replace our existing Venetian blinds which we had made to measure ten years ago. Back then, we made the mistake of ordering them with the cords to open/close and the cords to pull up/down on the same side. We then endured years of both sets of cords always getting tangled whenever we use them. We won't make the same mistake again!

Now the question is whether we opt for a tilt pole instead to open the blinds.

Pro: no long string to tie away. Neater aesthetic?

Cons: with the blinds up (we often do this during the day), would the pole look a bit odd hanging down and ruin the look? A rope can be tied away. I know twist poles take a few seconds longer to open but that isn't an issue for us. Nor is the fact that it's higher up as reaching up isn't an issue.

What do you think?

We had poles, they were clear plastic so not really noticeable

Poles are the way to go in my opinion. Our blind are outside the recess, so are wider than the window opening. So the pole hangs in front of the wall, rather than the window.

The poles can be easily removed and replaced - they simply hook onto a fastening at the top.

Poles are better as the dangers to children of cords are well known. Usually such poles are clear plastic, so unobtrusive, but will perish over time (years) due to the sun - at least they do in Australia. At this point you can buy very skinny dowelling and fix a hook to one end and attach to the fittings I have done.

Sorted.

Thank you! We'll go with the twist pole. Decision made. Thanks Mumsnetters!
