I’m going round in circles trying to find the right colour for a new living room rug. We have a dark grey sofa and silver/grey walls with silver and grey curtains. I want to inject some colour into the room. I keep looking at vibrant pink to navy blue. I would like a plain shaggy rug. But what colour? Budget up to £300. Thank you for any ideas you might have.

Otherwise you have lots of different colours and nothing to tie them together L

I do love that rug. Out of my price range unfortunately. However I’m kind of set on a plain rug for this particular room.

I would go for teal. Or maybe emerald green.

Stop with the Morris rug! I now want it!!!!!

I agree that a pattern would be lovely, otherwise it runs the risk of being very boring. The only way would be to have good texture & lots of interesting cushions & throws.

There's a nice IKEA navy I saw. I'll try & find it.

That’s a lovely rug. Quite like the idea of emerald green though.

You could have dusky pinks or blues or mustard. My preference would be teal or peacock.
Here's a range of plain teal / peacock rugs:

Or greens - here's a range of plain greens:

What is on the the floor OP? Because I think that will make a big difference. Do you have a photo of the room you can share as the colours and style of the existing furnishings will probaly help guide suggestions!

Yes. Definitely. I presumed wood, but if it isn't that'll change things.

Those Morris rugs are fabulous, definitely going to get one when I redecorate the living room!
I think a patterned rug would be good in your room if other furnishings are plain, to add interest.

Catsfrontbum · 27/10/2023 21:01

Defo a pattern and not one colour. One colour will keep the room feeling flat and one dimensional.

ikea have some affordable nice ones.

Richardchamberlainrocks · 27/10/2023 22:18

Thank you for all of your suggestions. We have a mid-oak floor. Silver art deco patterned wall paper on a feature wall with ‘snowfake’ ie an off white paint on the remaining walls. When I Google for any ideas the sofa portrayed is always a light grey and our sofa is dark grey.

The Borrealis one is Wayfair & looks lovely.

Puffalicious · 27/10/2023 22:35

The geometric may go well with your wallpaper.

The shapes one may be too modern.

Thank you all for your input. I’ve purchased a gorgeous blue shaggy rug - a beautiful jewel rich blue. I’m going to use gold accents ie cushions etc as per Puffalicious’ recommendation. Can’t wait. Thanks again.
