Just had a room plastered. It's dried out but can I just paint over the top of it??

You need to do a mist coat first.

You can get a plaster primer. They usually are colourless, so much less messy than a mist coat, especially for ceilings. You will still get drenched in that stuff, as it's so runny, but if it is colourless, it stains much less.
