Corner sofa - stylish, comfortable and quality - too much to ask?

OK,a bit lighthearted but we're hunting a new sofa, not had one in nearly 20 years and so it has to be just right.
We've been round most of the usual places, dfs, furniture village etc and I'm just not 100% on anything.
I think it needs to be an L shaped corner because it's a rectangular room so it's the best use of the space.
So many of the sofas we have tried feel like they are going to swallow you up, far too squishy and no doubt would flatten quickly. Also the seat pad from front to back is far far too deep. Some are more like beds than sofas! By far the most comfortable ones are the ones that look like cinema seating. But I don't want giant cinema seats in my living room!

Can anyone recommend a corner sofa that's comfortable (preferably sprung) yet a little bit stylish and will last reasonably well?

Current considerations are furniture village elixir and dfs tahiti. They are recliners with headrests you can put up or down so it looks less imposing on the room. It's not a big room.

In my opinion cannot go wrong with IKEA.. the Swedes know what makes a great sofa.. in all shapes.. with great colours..classic and simple.. take a trip to IKEA and test them. Myself have the Ektrop chaise lounge..

Ours is Natuzzi. Had it for ages, the most comfy thing ever. Love the style and it has kept its shape.

I was also coming on here to recommend Ikea! Their sofas are generally well regarded and the frames have a ten year guarantee. The Parup might suit you, in either the corner or the chaise versions. It is pocket sprung, and the slender legs and arm rests would work well in a smaller room.

IKEA - we all have sofas from them - daughter has a mid green corner sofa
which is v comfortable, looks good, deep enough to sleep on, comes with little cushions, ahhhh.

SLF24 are really good, stylist, not bulky and super priced. I sat on them at Grand Designs Live in Birmingham recently and was really impressed. They were part of ufurnish.com which is cool to let you search all retailers together https://www.ufurnish.com/en-gb/l/corner-sofas

Still haven't found the right thing. Seems like the very best are Italian leather, I'd love a natuzzi but they are pricey. I'd prefer not to go over 3k to be honest, we're still a youngish family with a dog and it will have to stand up to some wear.
Criteria now is 5 cushions at least, so that no one is on a crack. Neutral ish colour, greens, blues, tapes are all possibles. Favourite would be a rich chestnut tan leather.
I love the mid century styles but they tend to be very low back. DH would like lumbar support but then you are moving in to a style which isn't for us. Plus a firmer rather than softer seat.
I love ikea for a lot of things but not spotted anything. I do like the Stockholm leather sofa but not a corner so wouldn't work.
All suggestions and recommendations welcome!

Whereabouts are you? We visited friends in Cheshire, went for coffee and ended up buying a beautiful L shaped sofa!! It was an independent (but massive) place called Arighi Bianci in Macclesfield, might be worth a trip if it's not too far

We thought long and hard about a sofa - looked at some really expensive ones and all the in-betweens - but we have a dog, we have teenagers and I am clumsy and spill stuff. We went for Ikea in the end and bought two sets of covers and the first weekend I had teenagers being sick on it - the dog has made a few messes too and I am so glad we didn't splurge, I am so glad we can just chuck the covers in the washing machine and they go back on looking lovely and cream and I am not devasted by someone ruining my lovely sofa.

Helenahandkart · 13/11/2023 22:43

We got a velvet buttoned one from Habitat and although it is comfortable, the fabric tore around the buttons very quickly. So steer clear of Habitat.
Also, the velvet attracts all the dog hair and crumbs and looks permanently dirty.
Best £2k we ever spent 🤦🏼‍♀️

Is barker and stonehouse good quality? I'd never heard of it until recently.

@SnappyMcMuffin I agree totally! We have beautiful, large L shaped sofa from Arighi Bianci that is much admired by visitors.

Odadada · 14/11/2023 17:38

We have a dfs tahiti and love it so much! Gets loads of compliments from guests too

Takentomybed · 14/11/2023 17:47

I have the Orla Kiely Linden corner chaise sofa in navy velvet.
I love it. It is comfortable, good support and in great condition after 4 years. Looks new still

Jins · 14/11/2023 17:54

We’ve been hunting for ages. After something vaguely mid century styled with great back support etc.

I ended up buying two stressless sofas on eBay in immaculate condition and bought a chair to match. Now everyone gets the comfortable seat.

IKEA was the closest we found to what we were after. There’s something timeless about a lot of their designs

APurpleSquirrel · 14/11/2023 17:57

We recently (September) got a DFS Orka in Deep Blue velvet. It's not super squishy but not hard either. Proper back support, not just a load of loose cushions.
Velvet probably isn't the best option with pets though.

TheCraicDealer · 14/11/2023 18:02

We have the Copenhagen style from Marks & Spencer and love it. It’s six years old, been through two house moves and a four year old who loves to eat on the sofa and still looks great. We got a chenille fabric despite my dad insisting leather was the only way to go if you planned on kids, but I’ve been able to get any stains off it very easily with a spritz of upholstery cleaner and a quick scrub with a cloth.

Since we got ours’ Marksies have started doing a choice of three cushion fillings, one of which is ‘firm’ if that’s your DH’s vibe.

LegoLady95 · 14/11/2023 18:05

I love my Nantucket from M and S. Three seat softness options, aquaclean fabric which is amazing and loads of fabric/leather options as well as size options. Mine is the largest size, aqua clean velvet and was 3k.

Tryingtokeepgoing · 14/11/2023 18:22

John Lewis do a modular range that includes corner options - I have one in my office. It’s very supportive and not at all squishy, and comes in multiple sizes / configurations / fabrics. Very good for lounging on!!

SkyFullofStars1975 · 14/11/2023 18:39

Find a local upholsterer and ask for a price to have one made. You may be pleasantly surprised and you will have a lot more choice with fabrics/sizes.

You'll also get much better value without a shiny retail park premises that you're paying for on top.

NonSequentialRhubarb · 14/11/2023 18:56

We have a Snug corner sofa and I dis-recommend it.

It's navy velvet and attracts all kinds of dust, crumbs and pet hair. We had a velvet sofa before that didn't have any of these issues but this one is terrible. The back cushions have also started going saggy. I have to clean it daily to keep it looking presentable.

Callingallbutterflies · 14/11/2023 19:57

Try Softnord. They sell from their own site and via stockists. We have a enormous corner sofa and we got it for £2800 and it arrived in 7 weeks not the forecasted 12 weeks.

Arighi Bianchi ! gosh, we had our first house carpeted from there, my parents
never went anywhere else, for friends and contempories this was aspirational,
with quality, service, unmatched, they have been there for years,
well established, then we bought our Italian leather sofa, felt so grown up,
thanks for the happy memory jostle Snappy !

Justkoko · 14/11/2023 22:01

@MissFritton65 and @SnappyMcMuffin which sofas did you go for? We could potentially visit Arighi Bianchi.

@Odadada we were considering the tahiti as it is modular. How long gave you had it and is it holding up well? Did you get leather or fabric?
