What colour for the 'patress'?

I recently got these lovely light switches (Broughtons.com) and am unsure what to do with the wooden bit underneath, which I found out this morning is a patress.

I could do the same colour as the wall, or distressed white (cream?) or black gloss. Or just varnish it. Arggghhhh! Thoughts?

Just came on to see what a patress is, lol. If it was me I’d varnish it.

Id varnish it in a dead flat matt.

We painted ours (previous house) same colour as the wall, although in another house the ones we bought were already stained/polished in a deep mahogany which suited the aesthetic of that property.
