Can anyone help. I’ve ordered a kitchen online which is due for delivery next week. I have now realised that I have made a mistake with my measurements and my island is far too small. It’s 2.2m in length and 1.2m wide but I wanted it to be at least 2.6m in length. Could I just have an overhang at each side and put some stools under it or would that look stupid? Is the width big enough to fit 2 stools? Thanks.

Can't you contact the kitchen company and ask for some filling panels to be added either side? It will get assembled anyway on site. If your illustration is what you ordered, you have 3 units in a row on each side, so the kitchen fitter just adds a 25cm wide panel between the cupboards and the end panels. Otherwise, yes, you can have an overhang of up to 30cm with quartz without additional support on either side of the island. Most stools are about 50cm, so you should be fine.

Thank you for your advice, that’s really good to know. I will contact them about filling panels then 😊 Failing that, I will have a 30mm overhang like you suggested.

First I’d find out if they can supply extra units in time - it may be possible if they are “off the shelf” not bespoke. The worktop won’t be cut until the kitchen is fitted so the length of that should still be adjustable.

If not possible then I agree a 30cm overhang is the way to go, and have 2 bar stools. 120 width is perfect for 2 stools. I wouldn’t have an overhang at both ends, if that’s what you were suggesting, that would be a bit odd. I don’t think I’d do filler panels personally, seems a waste of space, I’d rather have the overhang and bar stools. Unless you really need the island to be a specific length.

Thank you, I contacted the kitchen company regarding some 20cm spice drawers but they came in at £1,200 each! I would need 4 sets so I think the overhang with 2 stools might be a better option.
