Hallway flooring - sanded boards?

Hallway carpet is a bit worse for wear so need to rethink the hall flooring.

I wondered about taking up carpet and sanding the floorboards - but will this make it really cold? (There's a 3ft void below). Anything I could do to reduce draught etc if I do this?

I know we still have the original feature of the doormat indent just inside the door, so I thought it might be worth doing...

You could insulate the void. We took the floorboards in most of our rooms up and put sheepwool underneath. We did this for bedrooms and living rooms, but didn't bother with the hall, though, as one doesn't spend that much time there. We now have just a rug there and it's fine.
