Would you be happy with this wallpaper job?

Decorator with “over 30 years experience” has just been round to wallpaper a room today.

I was out when he left and my husband was on a work call when he finished up.
It just looks so scruffy to me, especially around the windows.
Decorator has sent over an invoice but do you think I should say something about the quality of the work? What would you do?

Absolutely not.

2PintsOfCidernaBagofCrisps · 13/10/2023 15:16

No, I wouldn't be happy with that. If that was the result I wanted, I'd have done it myself and saved the expense of a "professional"

Neekoh · 13/10/2023 15:16

I mean that's just awful! It's not even aligned!

DeathWinsAGolfish · 13/10/2023 15:17

It's terrible!

Helenahandkart · 13/10/2023 15:17

Even I can wallpaper better than that, and I’ve only done it twice.

VeridicalVagabond · 13/10/2023 15:17

Oh my god that's awful.

My 15yo daughter insisted on doing her own room recently and she did a better job than that. I'd not be paying a penny for that.

MachinesOfGod · 13/10/2023 15:17

No, that’s a poor job with what was probably expensive wallpaper.

AnaBeaverhausen · 13/10/2023 15:19

Wow! My DM (age 72) has been wallpapering for years and she does a better job of lining up patterns than that. At times she has occasionally cut a drop a bit short she has put an extra bit up so that, when dry, it’s invisible and you would never know.
The job you are being invoiced for looks like my DH’s attempts -which is why we get DM to do it!

Grushenka · 13/10/2023 15:20

I did mine myself and it’s not perfect, but it does line up! Kick off about that!

CobwebsAndCauldrons · 13/10/2023 15:21

I'd be pissed off with that if I'D done it!

I'd be weighing up the value and effort of redoing it all. That's really bad for a 'professional'.

afuckinggoat · 13/10/2023 15:22

As I thought.
Thank you everyone! I will let him know that he’s done a shit job and ask him what he wants to do about it.

It’s not even touching the dado rail!

Not a good job. Looking at it made me feel sort of dizzy.

Icepinkeskimo · 13/10/2023 15:30

Wow it’s really bad 🫤 looks like a rush job.

justanotherlaura · 13/10/2023 16:00

I've only ever wallpapered 2 rooms and I've done a much better job than that!

Lampzade · 13/10/2023 16:02

Crap job

Happygirl79 · 19/01/2024 20:00

30 years of experience but learnt nothing it seems

easilydistracted1 · 19/01/2024 23:06

Was he drunk?

Saz12 · 21/01/2024 14:38

What does he have 30 years experience OF??!! 😳. It looks like I did it.

DointItForTheKids · 21/01/2024 15:05

I had a similar experience.

The guy came highly recommended on the Neighborhood app.

He 'wallpapered' a downstairs toilet for me and he'd actually torn the paper into strips with raw edges and laid them on top of each other. He hadn't pattern matched where it would have been possible to, the full width wallpaper runs were either too close together or ever so slightly too far apart but not a single one was perfectly pushed together, and there were huge blobs of wallpaper paste dobbed all over, added to which he'd climbed onto my toilet seat to get access to the corner and when I said to him you've broken my toilet seat he said no I never stood on it - when it was fine when I left for work in the morning and broken when I got back.

Whilst he'd done a much better job in the living room it still wasn't perfect there was no pattern matching around the corners and he'd actually gouged into the ceiling where he was cutting the paper with his Stanley blade.

In the end I told him he'd have to refund me for all the wallpaper because it was all absolutely ruined, the whole lot of it, which you did he paid up over £400 that day and he said "I don't know what went wrong I've never done such a bad job"! No sh*t!

The worst thing was that for the paper in the downstairs toilet you actually can't get it any more - it wasn't anything expensive or super special but I really really liked it and he wasted about the only supply that was left in the UK and I was absolutely gutted.

It's easily been 2 years now and I just haven't had the mental strength to go and try and find somebody else to do it 🤣!
